My cousin is dead.
So, I found out Tuesday night that my cousin, who is the same age as me (25), is dead. I guess his sister found him in a chair in his bedroom. He apparently died of cardiac arrest. I knew he was rather depressed, after losing first his job as a cop, and then from a local steel mill. He used to be heavy into drugs before cleaning himself up. There's a good chance he OD'ed, but we haven't heard anything back from the autopsy.

I really wasn't close to him. I talked to him maybe once since I graduated high school in 1999. Our high school years, we ran with different crowds, and I can't say I really liked him. We did alot of stuff together as kids though.

I can't say I'm really sad about him dying. It's just surreal that one of my cousins, (my dad has 10 siblings and I have a fuckton of cousins), that's my age is gone. It makes me think alot about my own mortality and how life is short. I suppose I'm not too sad because of all that went to shit in his life, he's probably better off.

Funeral's tonight, and goddamn it I don't have a black suit. It'll be strange seeing relatives I haven't seen since 1997 when my dad's mom died. After that, him and most of his brothers and sisters just kind of stopped keeping in touch. All kinds of weird shit went down surrounding her funeral.

3. I'm sorry, Allenberg.
Whether you were close or not, whether you liked him or not, it has to be a shock. He was so young.

And I wouldn't worry about the suit. Clothes do NOT make the man.

6. Different circumstances, but a cousin of mine died young too.
He was around 40 when he died. We were probably closer than you were to yours, and it was a big shock to the family... he had 11 siblings.

I had some thoughts about my own mortality too then. But I moved on, and I'm sure you will too.

You have my condolences.

8. Being reminded of one's mortality is shocking.
Allenburg, I'm so sorry. And you don't need to wear a black suit, IMO. MrG usually wears his grey suit... Sometimes he'll wear dress pants and a sweater.

I hope it goes okay.

9. I'm sorry
That's so young. And, so sad that he couldn't turn things around in his life. Don't worry about the black suit. What is important is to be there for your family...that's what matters. Nobody remembers what people wear. If they do, they're just being shallow.

I lost my cousin several years back to a motorcycle accident. It's so sad when a life ends so young.

16. How awful!
It always seems so cosmically wrong when people die at such a young age. I don't think black is an absolute "must" for funerals, anymore. Just dress nicely, and you'll look fine.
