Astronomers Say Pluto Is Not a Planet

The solar system now has only eight planets, an international group of astronomers announced today, after taking a vote to demote Pluto from planetary status.

The move came after years of scientific and public debate, and three quarters of a century after scientists first announced they had found a ninth planet at the outer edges of the solar system.
