Coffee... Flavored or unflavored?

I'm drinking some delicious French Vanilla coffee this morning. It's very stormy here in the Phoenix area this morning and it just seems like the perfect flavor for a rainy day. But I just love all flavors of coffee. Haven't tasted one I haven't liked.

But I know so many people who are coffee purists. NO flavors for them.

What about you? Do you drink the flavored coffees or would you rather have your fingernails pulled out than drink a flavored coffee?

1. I drink coffee to taste coffee

If I wanted a turtle cheesecake and 40oz of milk, I'd have that. No big deal if you -like- your coffee that way, but I don't understand you. :D

15. Hey! That doesn't sound all that bad to me!!
It would have a caramel taste and far fewer calories than real cheesecake! LOL
But that much milk would be a real buzz killer.

6. I like coffee in all its many incarnations
I typically like flavored coffee as a 'dessert coffee' if you know what I mean.

For mornings, it's usually straight up with a shot of half and half, or, more recently, soy milk.

After dinner, anything goes.

Word of warning: salmon-mocha is a yucky as it sounds.

9. I didn't start drinking coffee until just a few years ago, and I
definitely like flavored best. I don't drink it all that often, but I love French vanilla, caramel, and flavors like that. :) I like it regular/unflavored too. However, I cannot drink it black no matter what the flavor. :yoiks: I need skim milk! And I used to use sugar in mine, but I use stevia now. (Not quite the same thing, but still better than no sweetener.)

21. Here, take my fingernails.
I don't care for flavored coffees. I don't mind sprinkled cocoa or cinnamon or vanilla powder on top of a cup of plain coffee but when the flavor is infused it gives me a headache.
I don't use sweeteners in coffee either but I'm no purist because I do like milk in my coffee.

22. My motto:
If it doesn't taste like candy, it ain't coffee. I need cream and sugar (okay milk and Stevia now), and I kill for flavors. Why would I drink battery acid straight?

'Course, DH is a purist and won't let me make flavored coffee in our coffeemaker and I haven't gotten around to buying a second one, so I have to buy my flavored cuppas on the way in to work.

24. Stevia
I've noticed a handful of posters at DU mention stevia. I've never heard of it until today and now know why. It's illegal in Canada! Agriculture Canada (FDA counterpart up here) has never approved it as a food additive. It apparently causes low fertility rates in rats. Check it out here:

31. Hi, Q! I researched stevia when I wanted a non-sugar natural
sweetener and not an artificial sweetener. The only negative thing I could find in the research is that stevia has a slight contraceptive effect (which is what the info you show referred to). That does not bother me in the least---I'm not having children, and I'm currently using oral contraceptives.

I've been using stevia for almost six months now with no ill effects. :) It's not as good as sugar, but it beats the hell out of artificial sweeteners.

I drink them with just a touch of milk... like maybe a tablespoon.
Deeeeelicious!!!
The flavors are added to the coffee grounds.

29. For me I need it pure and strong
No disparagement ment to those that like flavoring or cream and sugar etc... but somehow my taste buds do not respond to coffee flavor mixed with anything but I do like the flavor of coffee itself. For example I can't stand coffee flavored ice cream.

Two exceptions. Coffee and chocolate - but what doesn't go well with chocolate :) (maybe pork) and cinnamon (just a little)

41. It's usually sold in upscale groceries.
Here's their website: http://www.illy.com/illy2006/USA/
It'll let you do a search for the stores in your area. It can be ordered from their website but it's more expensive that way.
Hands down the best coffee I've ever had.

47. I like strong coffee with cream. No sweeteners please
The only "flavored" coffee I really like is Cinnamon Roast..coffee and cinnamon were made for each other.

If I am having a fancy coffe drink made, it will be a mocha.

I hate those icky sweet artificially flavored creamers too. Pure half and half for me, unless I am making cappucino or a latte and then I use skim milk.

Last new coffee I tried was called Chiapas and boy is it good. One of those small enterprise, ecofriendly etc coffee companies. Got to get some more of that stuff.

49. Mostly unflavored
adding just four drops of dark stevia extract (extracted in plain water nothing else added and to me it tastes wonderful.)

SOMETIMES flavored, if it's hazelnut, vanilla, pecan, maple, something like that. No flavor in my morning coffee, though, just strong and F-R-E-S-H ~~~

The flavored coffees are HORRIBLE.
I'm not a 'purist' (which is why I mentioned my cocoa)
they just honestly TASTE BAD to me.

My sweetie's folks use a fairly pricey hazelnut blend;
to me, it tastes (just a hint) like burning plastic smells.
