Folks who are/were into the goth scene, please help me settle an argument.
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 05:57 PM by seawolf
While I have kind of a goth personality, I normally don't dress like one. I'm in Florida, and it's far too hot here most of the time for that mode of dress.

The only time I'm willing to dress up is if I'm going clubbing. A couple friends and acquaintances of mine are taking me along for the first club trip of the new school year, but they're into the industrial sub-culture and its particular fashions. I am not, but they're trying to push me in that direction. I'm a generalist, with a tendency towards the "business goth" look and a dash of neo-fantasy.

Is the following outfit sufficient to fit in at a goth club/attract women/get my friends to shut up?

White undershirt.
Cream silk shirt.
Black slacks.
Black leather belt.
Black boots (hopefully I can scrounge some combat boots, but if not, I'll be wearing black work boots.)
Black or dark brown leather gloves with gunmetal rivets.
(possible) Black leather bracers with runes tooled onto them and rivets near top/bottom.
(possible) A necklace consisting of a single jade rectangle in a silver setting on a black leather cord.

Any help will be very appreciated.

why not just a black tee shirt, your best jeans and some sweet gothed out big bang boots. good call with the bracers. leave the silver pendant bullshit at home though im thinkin.

im in florida too, and frequently go to a bar that has goth nites and the goth chicks don't particularly gravitate towards the D&D dork goth types. Don't go ren faired out you know. Just go out and have a good time, and dance a little bit. . . or a lot. The hot goth chick is no different from any other chick, god bless her, she digs a guy who tries to dance, for that is so rare particularly amongst our pasty white brethren. it wont be in what you wear, it'll be in your confidence.

on edit: gloves? no.

6. Jeans, really?
The people I know were screaming "NO JEANS!!! NOT EVEN BLACK JEANS!!!"

And I'm not trying to shoot for D&D dork look, so thanks for the advice on losing the necklace.

If I were a single chick at a club, you'd certainly catch my eye. :)

3. Sounds AWESOME.
Mind you, if you're going clubbing, be sure to bring plenty of paper towels to mop up that blood... :spray:

4. You shouldn't have to dress up to impress your friends.
If you don't feel comfortable you'll look like a poseur no matter what you're wearing. That said, the ensemble sounds a bit too put-together and V:TM LARP-y for my taste, not to mention I suspect it'd make you sweat like mad, especially the silk shirt. Your attitude matters more than your wardrobe.

5. Ironically, I wouldn't LARP for a million bucks.

So drop the necklace and maybe the bracers. Gotcha.

I'm going to sweat like hell in anything I wear, so I'm not too worried about that.

8. rivethead/goth
if your going to a more industrial music type of club, I would dress more simply, maybe a few metal accents, definetly combat boots..black t-shirt fine. Anything more over the top, like the fantasy wear, dress shirts, gloves, are more of a romantic goth thing. i find myself attracted to a mixture of the 2, which seems to be what your planning on wearing. The way i look at it is how you dress is what your going to attract. If you want to attract more hardcore girls, go for the simpler industrial look, if you want the more mopey goth girl, dress up all the way. God its been so long since I've been to a club.
