Is there a more perfect song out there than "Comfortably Numb"
Seriously, I could listen to this song 24x7 and still not grow tired of it (and that's alot coming from a gal who says her favorite band is Led Zeppelin.

I hearby nominate Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" as the worlds most perfect song.

And even if you don't agree with me, at least it's a pleasant earworm I just gave you!

Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now.
I hear youre feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.

Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ships smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I cant hear what youre sayin.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I cant explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

Ok.
Just a little pinprick.
Therell be no more --aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.

Can you stand up?
I do believe its working. good.
Thatll keep you going for the show.
Come on its time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ships smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I cant hear what youre sayin.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

3. The wall is one of the only rock albums I like.
Edited on Fri Aug-25-06 09:05 AM by mainegreen
First time I heard it I was four. That was the first time I really was aware of 'music'.
Still love that album.

Of course now I prefer my music a bit more.... aggressive. But hey, old Pink is still great.

Floyd does have value, though, as a soporific.

I sampled the middle guitar solo (not the fade out solo) and made it my ringtone.

21. There's something about that song
I've never been able to nail it down, but it resonates very deeply within me. I don't know if I have some gifted insight as to what Waters really meant or if I'm just a drama king, but there's no other song that makes me feel what "Comfortably Numb" does.

22. I saw Sisters of Mercy perform it live
a strange Goth rock version.

the WORST version ever was the Berlin wall performance! Van Morrison was just shrilling bad. Apparently he felt he didn't need to rehearse it.

Once of the greatest songs ever for sure. I have so many live recordings of this. The first time I saw it performed live in 1987 blew me away!

It's also the song Waters and Gilmour fought the most over, to the point where the multi track tape of the sessions were cut & spliced down the middle to accommodate both of them. I can imagine how frustrated Bob Ezrin must have felt.

27. I'm with you, LynneSin
There are lots of songs out there that are right up towards the top of my list, but Comfortably Numb is perfect. If it's on the radio, I cannot turn it off. And if some DJ talks over the ending guitar solo of Gilmour's, I feel the need to dive into the radio to gut him/her like a fish. Awesome awesome song, with a haunting guitar solo.
