I didn't use to have a car - but you can't get anywhere here in Kansas City without one. Bus service is practically non existant in most parts of the metro area.
Too dangerous to ride a bike - we lose a biker about once a week.
And too dangerous to walk in my neighborhood.
So I drive and hate it.
Would like to get a little scooter - then I could be this funny little old lady just tootin along.

9. Is the cycling really that dangerous there? |
|
I'm not trying to be snarky, just curious. In my area the media rarely provides details of cycling fatalities so it's difficult to judge. I know that a few of fatalities were the result of colossal stupidity on the part of a cyclist, ie, running a redlight on a busy four lane road where cars average 50 mph.
I did notice some lovely bike trails in Kansas City when I visited.

10. We have had three get killed in the last couple of weeks |
|
They try to ride in heavy traffic and motorists can't see them.
One guy got smashed when a cement truck or something turned right right on top of him.
Another girl was killed in something kind of like that - can't remember the details.
And one guy just didn't stop and ran right into an intersection.

6. Good lord, that's practically free! |
|
$2.73?? I'm SO jealous. Seriously.
I nearly caused a wreck by jumping across 2 lanes to get to a gas station that had it for $3.07. Most gas stations here are still around $3.30.
