some of my fondest memories of early childhood are of Saturday mornings listening to Elvis as my Mom cleaned house (it was tradition, Elvis and Saturdays were synonymous). My sister and I would stand atop our toy chest, with pencils in hand, and sing every line of every song. My appreciation for Elvis P. and his music continues to this day.
a difficult choice...
i discovered Elvis Costello around the time i was ten. The first couple of times I heard him I remember thinking "he's different", my perception didn't change after seeing him for the first time either (remember i was the MTV generation, big hair bands, Michael Jackson, etc were what was big) and he was saying something, and more importantly, what he was saying resonated with me. I was a young girl going through a lot of crap... with Elvis and artists like him (Zappa became a part of my everyday around this time too), I came to fully realize the power of music and, doing your own thang.
edited cause i can neither spell or type

9. Absolutely love both, but I gotta go with The King... |
|
the poster above me who said "apples and oranges" is correct, but as far as personal preference, I go with Elvis: Part One as opposed to the sequel. It's funny -- I probably listen to Costello more often, but then I'll occasionally throw in my Elvis greatest hits CD, play "Burnin' Love" at full volume, laugh my ass off, and realize that there's just no comparison.

10. I was hoping this would be a vote between... |
|
Young sex symbol Elvis and old, fat, jumpsuit-wearing Elvis. I vote the latter.
But in the real poll, I voted Costello. I'm not an Elvis Presley fan at all. Costello, on the other hand, I love.
