What movie have you seen more times than any other movie? |
|
Although I think we should disqualify "The Wizard of Oz" from this, if most people's experience is the same as mine: when I was a kid, "The Wizard of Oz" came on TV once a year, and it was an event. We usually had a slumber party, or went to one, and it was also the first time I ever saw color TV. Of course, at the age of 5, I ran out of the room any time the Wicked Witch came on. So I'm sure I've seen that movie more than any other, and I suspect it's the same for a lot of people. So, not counting that, what movie have you seen more than any other?
For me, it's a tie between "Psycho" (1960), "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" (1966) and "Harold and Maude" (1970) with approximately 12 times each.

1. Arsenic and Old Lace would be my first guess..as I have seen |
|
it many times over many many years.
Another would be Victor, Victoria because we love it, 9 to 5 is another.
The oldest 3 Star Wars movies could also qualify.

Also, In the Heat of the Night, and maybe Full Metal Jacket.

|
I've also watched "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" every year for as long as I can remember. I don't remember exactly how old I was the first time, probably 7 or 8 but can't say for sure, (that would have been around '70-'71)... but I've never missed them since. Let's not forget "It's a wonderful life"...

|
The latter is sort of a family tradition. We put it on while decorating the tree (my favorite always exhibited behavior shockingly similar to Clark Grizwald). Tree decorating in our family consisted of my mom decorating the tree and my sister and I sitting on the couch eating all the candy canes. We'd also get yelled at for not helping and for eating all the candy canes before they made it to the tree. Yep, this tradition continues to this day.

I saw it several times as a kid when it originally came out, and every time it comes on TV I find myself watching it again. I've probably seen it 50 times, damned near have the script memorized.
Some years back I met one of the actors in "TGE": Lawrence Montaigne, who plays the Canadian flyer who gets in the fake fist fight with James Coburn at the beginning of the movie. He told me that making the movie was a blast, even though he got shot at its conclusion....

47. "Gone With the Wind" but I relate to your "Oz" story... |
|
No kid had any creds without saying they'd seen "Wizard of Oz" and hidden under the bed when the Wicked Witch of the West came on!!
Only an IDIOT would stay IN the ROOM at that moment!!
It was something about our whole zeitgeist, I think. I LOVED that movie, drew pictures about it, it was a total "event" whenever it aired.
But maybe even more than "Oz" (or a close 2nd) is GWTW. As a teenager, I totally related to Scarlett and then emulated her. Then it got so certain lines have become part of my peculiar vernacular. Now I'm just pissed off when I see it, that she and Rhett were such idiots! (And the 1990s sequel, "Scarlett," was HORRIBLE.)
I hope someday before I die, somebody writes a really thoughtful resolution to that story.

When my son was a toddler it HAD to play nearly constantly when he was awake or he'd have a complete meltdown. (Unless we were "READ, MOMMY!!") Rewinding was interminable! I seriously considered buying two movies and a rewinder so I'd always have one "ready to go". Nearly everyone in the house could quote the entire movie verbatim.
When we were in the car, it was an audio tape of Disney's "Peter and the Wolf" - I can still get through a lot of that one.......
After LK - it was Pocahontas, then Peter Pan, then Sleeping Beauty, then (god help me) Barney, then....... it was always something he was hyperfocused on.
He's now almost 13 and practicing magic constantly.

Huge horror buff here.
I remember when it came out, and was staying at my aunt's & uncle's for the weekend. My older cousins teased the bejeezus outta my naive, 8 year old, self by telling me the details, then planting Michael Myers signs for me. When it finally came up on TV and my babysitter was preoccupied with talking to her BF on the phone, I watched it.
And haven't stopped since. :scared:

LOL!! On Thursday, when society is broken down into a post-apocalyptic nitemare, I'll just be in my apartment skinning rabbits and making cave-paintings like usual!

100. Princess Bride! my absolute favorite! |
|
watched the tape at least 7 times, then bought the DVD (4 times so far) and gave the tape to a friend who had never seen it. Spreadin' the love, ya know?

I could watch it once a week (my wife probably thinks I do). I bought the tape second hand at Blockbuster. Best value I've ever gotten for a movie. When I wear it out, I'll buy the DVD.

Saw it the first time at a drive-in when I was 9 or 10 & fell in love with Faye Dunaway. I'm sure I've seen it about 20 times since.

87. Rocky Horror Picture Show |
|
Which I have seen probably 100 times give or take. I did the RHPS cast thing in my teens, and we used to watch a video tape to practice our live show, and then the movie showed every other weekend.
Nowadays, other movies I've watched quite a few times include Moonstruck, Gladiator, Thirteenth Warrior, and Emma. I just get a kick out of all of those, they are ultimately entertaining.

89. "White Christmas" - there for a while when I first got it on DVD, |
|
I was watching it at least once a month. I'm down to about once a quarter now. I always watched it every Christmas when I was a kid--I'd stay up all night just to make sure I didn't miss it (before VCRs--I'm that old).
Next in line would probably be "Singing in the Rain" and "The Wizard of Oz," although the "Lord of the Rings Trilogy" is doing a pretty good job of catching up--I watch those movies a lot on the weekends. In spite of all the warfare, I find them quite comfortable to watch.
Others would be "Dead Again," the original "Manchurian Candidate," and "The Court Jester."

93. It would probably be Star Wars or |
|
Fiddler on the Roof. I know the dialogue from both movies. With Fiddler there was a time, when if I knew what time the movie started, I could look at a scene and know what time of day it was.

I just love Val Kilmer in that movie. Powers Booth is fantastic too, shit the entire cast is incredible.
Also all the James Bond movies with Sean Connery and Roger Moore, I can never tire of those movies.

101. "Apocalypse Now" ... |
|
Between the theater (saw it both when it first came out in 1979 and the Redux version in 2001), videotape (Beta and VHS) and odd showings on cable, I've seen the complete movie about 10 times. That's not counting catching parts of it on cable or broadcast TV and at travelers' cafes in Thailand.
I love it but never obsessed over it.
