What's the wierdest food you've ever eaten?
I used to eat cow brains, when my family would go to visit my grandad on his farm, when I was growing up. He raised a few black Angus. So, he liked to eat brains, and I liked to do anything he did.

10. So, somewhere out there, there's a cow going "uh, uh, uh" instead of
"Moo, moo, moo," because you have her tongue in your freezer.

2. Was that in Texas???
There is a memorable scene in the movie Giant where the Elizabeth Taylor character passes out when being fed cow brains at a barbecue.

Weirdest thing I ever age were sea cucumbers in China. They tasted about like rubbers bands would....had I ever eaten a rubber band.

Texas. Booneville, Mo. My grandad owned a farm and had grape and cherry orchards, and ran about fifty head of Black Angus cattle. It was a neat farm.

24. Nah, I only had a little bit of sake before trying it.
It was at a really upscale Japanese restaurant and my stepdad was pretty much daring me to try some of the weird stuff on the menu. I suffered no ill effects and I'm up for trying most things that don't involve flesh from a bird, reptile, amphibian (although I have eaten frog legs several times) or mammal. I'm just a pescarian at this point in my life.

I guess I've eaten other weird stuff. I eat a lot of seaweed and I ate a couple crickets once (they were in chocolate).

And other not-so-common to where I grew up delicacies such as:

Cobra soup in Hong Kong.

Soy-basted crickets in Japan. I gagged up the crickets but downed them quickly with some homemade sake. The natives were laughing that I wouldn't be able to pull it off, so I was determined to make it happen. . .

Edited on Mon Aug-28-06 10:32 PM by deucemagnet
I was living in Greece at the time and ordered calamari at a restaurant. The waiter brought me something that resembled a giant paramecium on a plate. I called the waiter over, told him I ordered calamari, and asked what it was. "Is cousin from squid," he said. Good enough for me. I shrugged and ate my giant paramecium. It was delicious. It was much later that I figured out it was a cuttlefish.

On edit: Here's a cuttlefish.

I judge my food on taste, not looks. Considering the fact that I eat tempeh, which is actually "fermented soybean cake" regularly, it's safe to say I go by mere taste. And tempeh is pretty damn tasty when cooked right.

62. Chocolate-covered ants and fried grasshoppers.
Mom had taken us to an international festival at our church when I was a kid, and there was a table with all kinds of delicious-looking food on it. I can't remember which country it represented, but I remember asking the man behind the table if I could have some. He said, "Sure! They are delicacies in my country. Not many people have been eating this, so help yourself." I asked him what they were, and he gave me the term in his language. They had a good flavor, and of course chocolate is always welcome. They were a little crunchy, and he said, "Would you be surprised if I told you you just ate chocolate-covered ants and fried grasshoppers?" I just kind of stopped and said, "Yes, I would." They weren't bad, and I didn't throw up or die or anything. I just smiled at him and said, "They weren't bad, though."

I didn't like the idea that I had just eaten insects, but it made me realize that people in other places ate different things than we did. :) I never ate any more insects after that, but I'm not grossed out by it.

77. I have had haggis. When I went to Scotland, I took a tour
to Loch Ness and the guide gave us haggis. It was quite tasty.

78. I ate haggis lately, and it was delish!
Then again, I have a reputation amongst my friends for enjoying 'gross' foods. Fine, more for me--pass that haggis right over! Give me a nice dark beer on the side and it's a meal. :7

79. Jellyfish
Not much texture to it and very little flavor.

Would I eat it again? Yes.
