1. My experience
DHL sucks locally but does a better job internationally.

Fed Ex is the best locally.

4. DHL contracts out its local ops.
Hubby is the DHL system architect (moving up soon)--they are great to work for, both here in the US and abroad.

2. USPS!
I swear, this one story, still has me pissed off...

Last year my mother ordered this back support foam piece, and had it delivered to our house, because the company wouldn't ship to Alaska. So, the plan was, order it, mail it here, and I would repackage it, and mail it to alaska via USPS. Okay, I get the box in, and I open it up to check out what was in side, just a weird looking piece of foam, and some manuals/warranty papers. It was close to my fathers bday, so I decided to put the coins/belt buckle I got him in the package. Coins/buckle didn't take up any room at all....

I take the packaget to USPS, and send it off, priority...but with no insurance. I was of the mind...shit, its just foam, nothing can possibly go wrong! But, I was wrong....

My mother gets the package in...her foam is literally crushed, the coins/buckle I got for my father are missing/stolen. So my mother raises a stink, but since it wasn't insured, she got the shaft. She reordered the foam, and I sent it priority again with insurance on it, nothing bad happened.

But its a sad day, when you can have a foam pad be destroyed via USPS. I got a lot of messed up stories of USPS shipping my computer....short short story, was maild off 3 times, messed up all three times...after the third time, I just decided to drive 5 and half hours to go pick the damn thing up from my friend, who kept building, and fixing my computer!....:)

3. UPS
My company uses virtually every shipper in the business but last week UPS put us through so much trouble that even if I have to use them professionally, I will never use them for personal shipping. On Tuesday a letter is delivered to the wrong department then forwarded to us saying a package has been rejected but there is no explanation. They didn't write the full tracking number or return the package to us and for a couple of days admitted they didn't know where it was. One of my coworkers got to spend literally hours a day over the course of the next three days arguing with people until Thursday they locate the package and return it to us. We got it back with a sticker on it saying it was rejected by the recipient. We were trying to ship it a thousand miles away and it never left the state so there was no possible way the recipient could've rejected it. I work for a lab so by this time the dry ice had all dissolved and thanks to UPS's incompetence dozens of patients have to be redrawn.

5. FedEx After that shit that happened to me a few weeks ago
...I'll never use them. Just to recap, I took a day off work to get my new mixer and the FedEx guy pulled up to my house, sat there a few minutes and drove off. I had to take the next day off too.
