No wonder I'm so tired! (Warning ... pics!)
Here's what we spent out weekend doing ... cleaning up the huge limestone rock in our driveway. Call us crazy, but we like it. The builder was going to take it out and we asked him to work around it. It's right in the middle of the driveway entrance, so we're going to have a split entrance now.

Here it is before we tackled it:

South side:

And after we spend 2 1/2 days picking at it:

South side:

I think it was worth it. :bounce: But we sure did wear ourselves out! :P

Oh, and we found a horse shoe while we were digging through all that dirt. It still has a nail in it! Considering that there were thick woods and brush growing over the rock before the area was cleared, it must have been a very long time since anyone could have taken a horse in there. We thought it was pretty cool.

This one's next. Should we have a pizza and beer party and see if we can get some people to help with it? :bounce:

1. That was totally worth your time and effort.
That's a REALLY nice-looking rock!
I'm jealous.

I have a nice rock in my yard, but it's only about
as big as a grapefruit. :(

2. Thank you, dicksteele.
:toast: The builder told us that most people want them taken out. We had a very nice one saved from a different part of the driveway, but the guy who came to fix the excavator's jack hammer decided to try the fix on our saved rock. x( It was about 5 tons worth of limestone. They're going to find us another one, though.

I wish I could send you a bigger one. Even the bits that are left from the one they broke up are too big for us to pick up. I think rocks are way cool. :loveya:

5. You should have just run a hose over it...
And in about 2,500,000 years you would have had a nice pathway...

6. Well, first of all,
we don't have any water yet (well hasn't been drilled). Otherwise, I'd say that's a great idea!

8. LOL!
 Pesky details abound when you're building like this ... details like perhaps the water is 500+ feet down! I think I need to take up a collection! :scared:

12. Harleydad calls it ...
Gozinta and Gozouta. Instead of having a single entrance where the rock is, we're having a U-shaped drive go around it before heading up the hill. We'll have a sort of "in" and "out" side. :D

It would have been a shame to destroy it. Thanks for admiring it! :yourock:

14. Now there's something I didn't expect.
I never thought of a rock as being fancy. :D The top part was easy -- it was all nice dirt that came off easily. But it was clay a few feet down from that. That's when it got hard. x(

You get to see it in real life pretty soon! :bounce:

Around here, they would consider it fancier to take it out and just have a normal driveway.

it's gonna be sooo beautiful when you get the planting done -- it really will be grand!

are you going to pressure wash the rocks so you can see the details?

23. But ... but ...
it's SMALLER!

We would love to pressure wash them, although we cleaned them off pretty well and even swept them with a broom. But we don't have a well yet ... and it'll be over 500 feet away when we do get one. Maybe we'll invite the fire department over and let them practice running their hoses on them. :bounce: Actually, the rain should help clean off the rest of the dust on the ones we've finished.

27. I've unearthed antique marbles in my backyard.
Whenever I till new ground for a garden, I find old, clay-type marbles. I don't know why, but it gives me a sense of history and continuity when I find something like that.
