Brutally honest, discriminating girls: is a driving new-ish pickup truck,
something that's just as desirable as a guy who drives a newish nice car to most girls?

What are the drawbacks to a pickup truck in the dating arena?

I know tons of cool, unmaterialistic, nice people frequent DU, you know, how people SHOULD be?

But I'm just talking about odds and stats here, don't just speak for yourself, what's your feel of the general populous of college age and early 20's chicks.

2. A small practical truck would be okay.
Unless he needed it for work or some other reason that makes sense, one of those bigass F-350 double cab dualie things kinda screams insecure shitkicker though.

I don't care if a car looks impressive, but I do think what a person drives says can give some insight to thier personality (provided it's not somebody else's car or all they could afford.)

She's gotta be a small woman for 125ccs to pull her in a sidecar. ;)

17. Well, yes, it's a Vespa...
...I'm concerned with the model. It looks like a 125cc Primavera, which is a very nice bike, but I don't know that it has the power to pull a loaded sidecar. Now, a P200, on the other hand... THAT's a Vespa. ;)

20. same here
who gives a RAT'S ASS what the hell anyone drives.

someone who judges you on what you happen to drive wouldn't be worth knowing in my opinion.

that's like making a judgment on someone for what shoes they wear.

15. Pardon me for
crashing - not that anybody pays attention to anything I post anyway - but I can't stand that term "brutally honest."

It demeans the concept of honesty by implying that complet honesty is "brutal" except maybe if you admire - or even condone - brutality.

There - go back to whatever you were doing.

22. I've suspected that
Not sure why people concern themselves with what other people drive. You choice of appliances should have no bearing on your appeal to other people, but that's the society we live in.

For the record, my wife and I both drive trucks. We had a Camry and a small truck. We really needed towing power, so we got a larger truck. Because it was new (and the other vehicles were old) I offered it to my wife (I'm gallant like that :)). That left me with the choice of taking her Camry or keeping my old pickup. I just like my comfy old Toyota truck, so the Camry got sold.

24. god forbid you have a large boat
i suppose in some circles you'd have no social currency because of the large truck necessary to haul it.

29. Not in MY circles
My crowd all have boats. I have a 22-foot sailboat, which is pretty minimal for overnighting. I bought a small six cylinder truck to pull it (still bigger than the little 4 cyl I had).

But if you have a heavy boat, you need the truck to tow it.

I still don't over-consume. Powerboats can easily burn 100 gallons of gas in a single day. I burn virtually zero gas in my boat (maybe two gallons or so per year).

So in my group, I'm the whimp.

I live in a huge truck and SUV hell, and it just galls me no end to be behind the raised, weekly wax jobs I can't see around in my Camry.

27. Now see, that I can respect.
Yeah, I drive a sensible Camry, but it's a 6 cyl--and hubby drives a Lexus. Not the most sensible cars on the planet, but they work for us.

It's just that the showroom-perfect huge trucks just speak-volumes to me, and what they say isn't pretty.

I freely admit that what they say may be absolutely wrong, howeve.

23. You asked for brutally honest, so here goes...
I'm a pretty slick, well-dressed, urban, educated type, just as I was in my college days. Even then, I dated a guy who drove a pickup--he used for his work, which was a small-scale painting business. I never minded--he always looked good and was paying his way through college. His truck was neat, but scratched a bit; clearly a utilitarian vehicle. I mean, what's sexier than a smart guy with a good work ethic who took the effort to look good? Meeeoooow...

Many of my friends were quite envious of me--he was a find (but ultimately commitment-phobic).

OTOH, I often got offers from guys who drove enormous pickups that were kept absolutely pristine looking--shiny, lots of chrome, maybe you get the idea. INSTANT TURNOFF. Yechhh.

All of my friends, who shared similar taste (educated being EXTREMELY important) felt the same way--show trucks speak volumes about the driver. To us they said weirdly self-absorbed, I guess.

Any help?

30. There shouldn't be any. A vehicle is a vehicle.
It takes you places, depreciates in value the minute the ink is dry on the check, and never is traded in for what it's worth.

We've always from 18 on up had pickup trucks. :hi:
