If you had it and still do, do you do so because you are happy with the service, or through inertia/keeping the same email address? If you dropped it, did you do so because of broadband, or you were unhappy with other aspects of AOL service?

1. We had AOL for a year. I had to switch to cable for my job. |
|
The size of the files I send are too big for dial up connections. I don't miss it. In fact it took us a year longer to get rid of it and they chided us that "We'd be back..." That was 10 years ago. :hi:

2. My First Account Was a Unix Shell Account |

I've never had AOL or any other hand-holding service. I never install anything that the ISP sends - no need to; all I need is the phone number and my account info!

3. I've had AOL since 1993 |

though it wasn't my first internet service. That honor goes to Compuserve and Prodigy.
I stuck with it because of email, mostly, though one good thing is the amount of online space it gives me.
Now that they're "freeing up" with the email plan, I think I might stick with it because they're supposed to be giving us 50GB of online storage if you stay a member, and that's a lot of space! It's also simpler to remember image links and such with the AOL URL, instead of trying to remember something from photobucket or whatever.
If that falls through, I will quit AOL now that the email will be free.

I used the free trial CD when the power went out after hurricane Wilma and we couldn't use our cable modem. What a mistake that was! x( I had a dickens of a time getting it cancelled. I was glad to be able to get on the internet, but they wasted my battery by downloading updates every time I logged on. That sure wasn't helpful! When I called to cancel, they sent a letter thanking me for signing up and agreeing to pay something like $34 every month! :wtf: I had to sit on hold for at least 30 minutes before I could get someone to straighten it out. Then they started making telemarketing calls to me ... another 30 minute wait to tell them to stop calling me. They finally gave up and stopped sending me those damned CDs. I wouldn't take AOL if they offered it free for life.

5. Had AOL until the advent of Broadband. |
|
And until AOL made everything web-based, thereby removing any plausible need one might have for an AOL account. I don't know why they really stopped producing their own content.

but my daughter does. It is slow, clunky and full of spyware. I do like all the CDs they send though, they make great coasters.
