Ever notice that "Passat" looks like "Asshat"?
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 01:49 PM by NewWaveChick1981
:P I pondered that as I drove to my business destination last night. A Passat Asshat nearly ran off the road last night, which made me think about it. I mean, VW could bring out a whole new line of cars geared toward asshats. And they could give it an appropriate name instead of trying to invent a classy-sounding bullshit name (like Alero or Altima or whatever).

Just sayin'....

Edited to add: DISCLAIMER: I did not mean to imply that all Passat owners/drivers are asshats. Just that one.

2. You've bene doing a lot of pondering
Travel really does broaden the mind. :D

I've been pondering where the hell they get some of these names from. They seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel now, anyway. What set me to such pondering was that, a week ago, I saw an Isuzu Axiom. Axiom? What's next? The Mazda Commandment? The Ford Random? The Mitsubishi NonSequiter?

5. Yes. Yes, I have.

I had a six-hour drive last night that turned into seven because of the weather. :yoiks: I had a lot of time to ponder. The Asshat nearly ran off the road because he was driving way too fast in a blinding thunderstorm. He skidded to the right, and fortunately, he recovered. Otherwise, two semis and three or four other cars might not have been so lucky. :(

I saw a news segment on how car manufacturers come up with names, and most of them are bullshit made-up names that sound like something else but aren't real words---like Altima. They just want the words to sound luxurious and/or classy to entice buyers, and they can copyright the bullshit name. I love your suggestions for new car names---BUY THIS CAR OR ELSE! I'm throwing an Axiom/Commandment at you!!!

13. Ooo...
I know how bad those storms can be in the piedmont and coastal plain and thereabouts, and I'm glad you were okay and by now have -- hopefully -- relaxed the muscles in your legs, bootie, and arms. Seems like a lot of idiots drive like maniacs in conditions that just don't allow it -- those deluges down South, ice storms, fog, etc -- and it's not unusual to hear about huge multicar pile-ups when it all goes wrong. I drive and ride very fast, habitually, but there's a time and a place for it. Thar Passat bozo was almost passé.

Yeah, what is an Altima? I always think of altitude, though it's not like the thing is an aircraft. I mean, those behemoth Suburban Assault Vehicles tend to have suitably outsized or testosterone-soaked names that make some sense -- the Chevy Mountain, the Ford Golgotha, and the Cadillac Monolith, for example -- but what the hell is a Hyundai Speculum?

6. I'll hear a product name and wonder - is it a car, a new drug, or an HMO?
Something like Altura

The 2006 Nissan Altura

Ask your doctor Altura is right for you.

Tired of Prudential? Switch your HMO to Altura.

10. Years ago (late 80s?) they held a contest to name a new hospital
in Norfolk, Virginia. Some local won the contest with, I shit you not, Sentara. I mean, you just know the guy drove a Sentra!

He won $50,000 for that gem of a name.

Yeah, and I'll bet he's the guy that came up with "hatered". Just add an "e" and you're home free! Same way he won that naming contest...

12. New VWs do seem to be the car of chioce for assholes who overestimate
thier driving capablilites and wouldn't let you merge into thier lane ahead of them even if you had the styroforam cooler with thier dying mother's potential heart transplant in your passenger seat. Especially Jettas. :grr:
