I'm going crazy with a dumped kitty! |
|
For some reason, people seem to think that a hospital is a good place to dump their unwanted animals. I've been able to nab a kitten and find a home for her, I nabbed a beautiful white cat who sat right in front of the food bowl waiting for me every morning. That kitty found a home too. I took one home myself years ago.
This one is beautiful. She's gray with gorgeous eyes, but she will not let me touch her. I've been feeding her for many weeks and the closest I've come is having her sniff my fingers. If she lets me pet her, she's caught.
One of the Docs here has a cat shelter and provides medical intervention. She and I plan to meet early Saturday when I normally put the food out because when I shake the bowl, she comes out of hiding. Once she's visible, Dr. X will do the rest.
However, I haven't seen El Gato today. At all. Not even in her usual hiding places. I just noticed that some of her food has been eaten, but I'm afraid she's sick.
Anyway, wish us well and hope for a successful capture.

and good for you for loving El Gato even if she can't feel safe loving you back. Assuming she's not sick, she will learn to trust you.
My beloved Stevie had been horribly abused when I got her. She trusted no one. She eventually realized I was no threat and gradually started to trust me..... and then couldn't bear to spend a moment away from me. She died but may have been the person I've love most selflessly.
Assuming El Gato may be sick... the usual hiding places may not be your best bet. Think of any warm/cool dark places where she could hide and feel safe.
I certainly wish you and her well :)

I've checked her food bowl and she's been eating. For whatever reason, she doesn't want me to see her today. I usually stand a healthy distance away while she's eating and talk to her. She's always got one eye on me the whole time. I'm sure she feels horribly betrayed by humans being dumped like she was.
I sure hope we can catch her. Right now I'm trying to talk hubby into coming up here early Saturday morning for her usual feeding time so I can meet up with the doc. Give Derby hell for me, will ya? :)

2. I hope you find her soon. |

Is she a feral kitty? She may be hiding in a new place. Hopefully she's not sick.
God bless you and the Doc. for caring!

4. I don't think she's feral |

A lot of cats get dumped up here. There was a tabby male once who would latch on to anyone who walked by and loved all over their leg. He was easy to catch and the doc took him in.
My Bonnie was also dumped. I sat on the plaza and she crawled into my lap. She had a flea collar - a really old fluorescent one - that had faded all over her ragdoll like fur. She was very sick when I took her in, but she's a big, fat puffball now.
I love El Gato, but unfortunately, our apartments only allow 2 pets. We've maxed out.
Thank you for the good wishes.

Maybe someone scared her and she's back to being afraid of me. If Derby will agree to bring me up here early Saturday, the doc and I can catch her. Sic 'im!
It made me feel a little better to see that the normal amount of food she eats at a sitting is gone. I did put out some extra last night because she had eaten everything, so maybe she chowed on that until later in the morning.
I realized how much I miss seeing El Gato's pretty face, even if I get the hairy eyeball. :)

but she (I'm only assuming she's a she) is kind of a teenager kitty. I haven't heard her mewling either. I just hope we can catch her before there are more Los Gatos. She's very thin despite being fed every day, so I'm sure she has parasites. I don't know if nature's call is that strong when that's the case.

I just saw El Gato sleeping in her usual spot. She seems to be completely okay. The doc and I have plans to nab her early Saturday when I normally feed her.
I always worry that someone will try to poison her or do something else horrific. I'm glad she's finally going to be safe.
