The travel agent booking my in-laws cruise.
My wife's parents are going on a cruise -- not sure where, but I know that they will be in New York City for a few days.
So my mother-in-law says to the woman, "Oh, I can't wait to go to New York -- we love that city."
The travel agent replies, "But ma'am, the ship doesn't leave out of New York...it leaves out of Brooklyn."
So then the woman gets out a map and is looking for Brooklyn but she cannot find it. My mother in law finally tells her, "Uhm...Brooklyn is in New York."

It's hard to imagine someone being that ignorant of geography. Given how many tv shows are set in NYC people tend to learn a bit about NYC just through osmosis.

My husband was talking with a co-worker and they got on the subject of wives and hub said I was interested in history, knew about things like the Norman Conquest.
According to hub, co-worker looked bemused for a moment, then answered, "I knew a guy named Norman once."
