2. And just so you know... |
They say the five second rule isn't safe. The five seconds on the floor can mean you can spend 30 minutes in the bathroom, and it's just not worth that.

3. Are they citing the Mythbusters? |
Mythbusters - a fun show, but lacking in educational content - did the myth of the five-second rule. They put bacterial plates (? a thing used to grow bacteria) on the floor in different places for five seconds, let them stew, then counted up the colonies. I don't remember the outcome. But Mythbusters is little more than two overgrown kids having a blast checking things out -- so it was just the kind of thing that a Fox affiliate might report as fact.

4. They didn't cite the mythbusters or say how they determined this... |
they just said that think about all the stuff you step in and it's on the floor. So basically, you could get food poisoning by heeding the 5 second rule so don't do it.

5. Well, my kid is safe then. |
In our house nothing lasts 5 seconds on the floor. One of the 5 dogs snarfs it up.

6. I have a cat that does that. |
However, he was heavily influenced by a German Shepherd while in a very formative stage. Our dog seemed to regard kittens as weird-looking puppies that we got for her to play mommy with.
