Visualize Total Success!
Edited on Thu Aug-31-06 12:07 AM by sofa king
Tonight I had an excellent thing happen to me, which I would like to share with you.

This evening my housemate Tony called me up and asked me if I wanted to go to a Washington Nationals game, which of course I jumped at. I headed over to Tony's office and met his coworker, who had the tickets. When I came in wearing my Virginia Tech baseball cap (the only baseball cap I have), she asked me if I also wanted to borrow her Nationals cap. But, she said, don't lose it! It's very important to her, for reasons unknown to me.

No problem. I put the VT hat up as hostage and told her I'd get my hat back as soon as she got hers (I'd forgotten for the moment that we would be coming back to the office later to pick up Tony's car, anyway).

On the way to the game, Tony mentioned that he wasn't quite sure if we were supposed to be paying for these tickets or not. "I already owe her one favor," he said. "It wouldn't be cool to owe her another one, so I guess I should offer to pay her." Which pretty much means that I was gonna have to offer to pay too.

Now, this is a problem, because we're both poor. In my case, dirt poor, as in I don't know how the rent's getting paid tomorrow. "We've gotta figure out a way to show our appreciation for free," I said on the Metro.

Then, in the second inning of this rainy game, it came to me. "I've got it!" I said jokingly. "I'm gonna catch a foul ball with this baseball cap, and then we'll give the ball to her."

"That would work," said Tony cynically.

Then, in the ninth inning, as the Nationals were looking down the barrel of a 5-1 loss, Austin Kearns came to bat and hit a foul ball directly to my seat, which I caught in the borrowed Washington Nationals baseball cap. "There it is!" said Tony in wonderment, as the ball landed in that hat, directly between us. I swear this on the soul of my dead grandmother.

Tony and I exchanged high-fives and laughed about it all the way back to the office. And right now, that baseball is sitting underneath the baseball cap with a thank-you note, on this nice woman's desk, where she will find it tomorrow morning. The best part of it all is that Tony is witness and participant in the event, and he's going to be able to tell her exactly what happened. Nobody's going to believe it, but he and I know it's true.

So with that in mind, tomorrow I'm going to get a well paying job using my talents to help other people and restore America to its former greatness. And I'll be able to do that job from home, in my bathrobe.

Visualize total success, baby!
