1. If they have tapeworm, they have fleas |
|
Tapeworms are carried by fleas - it's the only way cats get them. The larva are transferred to the cat when the flea bites them and it grows into a tapeworm inside the cat.
Not all dewormers handle tapeworms. Most of them only take care of hookworms and roundworms. Sounds like you need a dose of Frontline for fleas (even if you're not seeing them, to get tapes, you have fleas) and a wormer specifically for tapes.

3. No, that's only one kind of tapeworm. |
|
I don't know the scientific names offhand, but fleas are the cause of one type, and eating organs of a rat/mouse/rodent is cause of another.
Flea-transmitted tapeworm is the most common, though.

It only takes one flea coming into your house, or one mouse/rat that they find and kill. Not that you're infested or anything, of course, but a single intruder can happen to anyone at any time.

fucking right now? Is that the reason for calling them that? Are these cats that specialize in fucking, thus making them the "fucking cats?"
:) The subject line just sounded funny.

6. it's gross, but easy to take care of.... |
|
our vets give us a pill for $5/per that takes care of the problem. To fend off the dreaded worms, you might want to consider treating your cats once a month with Advantage or Frontline... do NOT use the Hartz stuff, it's very harmful (but if you feed your babies human grade food, I'm sure you know that).
Our kittens came to us last year with tapeworms, one poor baby had such a bad case they were all linked, about 15 inches coming out of her as she tried to poop a day or so after we got her. Poor little girl. Was very disgusting, but I was so worried about her. The one tablet cleared it right up, though.
