Lunch? Trying to decide what sounds good. Mexican?
We have a great Mexican place close to me. Run by a family, I think.

They have a luncheon deal of cheese and onion enchilada with rice and beans for 4.50.

We have tons of Mexican places here but this one is just especially good.

2. I wouldn't know authentic Mexican if it hit me in the head.
But the family that runs it is really nice. And the atmosphere is great.

I love to hear Spanish. I don't understand a word but it is peaceful sounding.

3. Probably is if it's family run.
I also like Chi Chi's though and I know that's no where near the 'real' stuff. I like it for what it is.

enjoy your lunch whatever you decide to have.

:)

5. If a family runs it and they speak Spanish
it's probably authentic. We have two Mexican places here, not counting Taco Bell. Both are run by Mexican families, but they cater to different clientele. One is more fast food-ish, and is always filled with Spanish speaking customers. I think the food there is more authentic.

The other is more a "sit-down" restaurant, aimed toward Anglo customers, and I think the food is a bit less authentic.

I prefer the "less fancy" one, because it has an air of authenticity. But most people I know won't set foot in it. Mexicans and Mexican Americans love the place, though.

I've made my self hungry. Lunch at Sophia's today!

8. I'm back - it was really good.
But the salsa was really hot today.

There are always lots of Spanish speaking customers in there so it is probably pretty authentic stuff.

The only think I don't like is the way they fix their beef - it doesn't have much taste and is really heavy. So I don't know if that is just that it is authentic and I don't care much for it or what.

11. I don't care for Italian - too much tomato sauce.
But the only Italian place near me is Italian Gardens and that may not be very authentic.
