Do some people bruise more easily or |
|
does it just show up more on us pale types? (I don't have any medical condition that causes it - I've always been a bruiser.)

1. You're not the only one |
|
I constantly look like I've been beaten and often don't know what I hit.

It's a good thing I'm not a junkie - I'd be black and blue.

3. In my unscientific observations, I'd say yes |
|
I don't bruise easily. I can bash myself against things and come out of it without a mark (though sometimes I'll find a huge bruise on myself and wonder where it came from - I get so busy, I don't notice myself careening into things, I guess).
I've known other people, though, who barely bumped something and got a nasty bruise.

I also bruise in the weirdest places - and I have no idea how I get them. Yesterday I woke up with a bruise on my inside thigh. :wtf:

6. Yes and I am one of them. |

I almost always have a few black and blues and often I don't even remember how I got them. If I so much as tap a leg into a table or something, I get a black and blue mark.

And it'll leave a bruise sometimes. I'm always finding marks when I get in the shower and wondering where they came from.

11. I'm perfectly healthy with no underlying problems, and I bruise fairly |
|
easily. If I bump into something, no matter if it's a light bump, I'll usually have at least a small bruise there. I've always been like that.
You're definitely not alone.

12. There are lots of medications that can make bruising easier |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 09:00 PM by sir_captain
most of them are things that have blood-thinning properties like aspirin or some kinds of birth control pills. There are also some pretty common diuretics and arthritis medications that can have this effect.
Edit: women also have a generally stronger immune response to men, which could partially explain increased bruising and susceptibility to auto-immune disorders like lupus, etc

Have since I was young. Family Dr. told my mom if he didn't know us he would report her to what was then DYFS. He prescribed Vitamin K.
I still bruise easily. When I bang into something I usually tell my husband to remember what I did so I can figure out where the bruise I just found came from!

15. No - some people bruise more easily. |

Red haired people bruise spectacularly. I should know - I'm one. A couple of years ago my husband was in the operating room doing his nerve monitoring during a spinal fusion procedure and the orthopod got discussing bruising. Husband mentioned how I bruise. Orthopod asked if I were a red-head. Husband said not just a red-head, but an Irish redhead. Orthopod said that some studies he had read indicated that red haired people tend to bruise easier than other people and with the pale complexion that tends to go with red hair, show it more. Oh joy.
