I recently had my first cholesterol screening in 20 years... |
|
I had a complete blood work-up at the request of my doctor recently. I am 40 years old, and I'm a little embarrassed to say that, despite regular checkups and annual gyn exams, I have not had a complete bloodwork done.
Anyway, I just got the results of the cholesterol screening - my total number is 150. My HDL is 63 (should be at least 40), and my LDL is 87 (should be below 100). The doctor was extremely pleased. He also said that the rest of the results (kidney and liver function, thyroid, blood sugar, etc) were all excellent.
Whew!

can you find a buddy to go with you? A friend, relative, neighbor? Then you can each remind each other when you will be due again for the one. You can plan a little breakfast or lunch around it, and you will have something nice to look forward to as well. Good numbers BTW. Good for you!

When I am 40 next year, I am getting that checked out. Last time I did was when I was 35, and my cholesterol was good - 52 HDL and 91 LDL - 143 total. I am taking better care of myself now than I did then, so I hope I do okay.
Good news! :toast:

6. You shouldn't be embarassed to |

say that, you're doctor should. Kinda hard to believe that with regular check-ups he/she has never ordered a full blood work-up. Even if you're not experiencing any problems, you would think he would do at least one as a baseline as a part of a physical.
Great numbers, tho! I just had my mammo two days ago. Hated it but it had to be done, I guess. Hadn't had one done in 4 years and he wasn't buying it when I told him I would have another when they started diagnosing prostate cancer the same way! All he said was, "My but you're going to be fun when it comes time for the colonoscopy!" He's pretty cool, we have a good relationship and a lot of laughs when I go in.

7. This doctor is new to me this summer. |

Also, my gyn HAS ordered bloodwork before; I just haven't made myself go to the lab.
