I've gained 30 lbs from quitting smoking and I can't get |
|
used to my new fatter body. D*mn, 30 lbs is 2 clothes sizes bigger....I have to buy a whole new wardrobe. I've been walking 2 miles 3 times a week and riding my excercise cycle for 30 minutes a day the other 3 times a week for a total of doing something for 30 minutes 6 times a week, and I'm still HUGE and uncomfortable.

1. I admire you for quitting smoking |
|
I never will, and have faced that.
I have lost a bunch of weight over the past number of months, and feel okay about that, but don't judge who I am or how I relate to the world because of that.
Be happy with who you are. Don't judge yourself by how you think others may be judging you.
Can you breathe better?
That's pretty damn important, you know!
I wish you luck!

14. Focus on the positive...you quit! |
|
I am betting the weight will come in, but in the meantime, give yourself a major pat on the back for quitting in the first place! :applause:

2. Good for you for quitting smoking. I know how hard it can be to |
|
lose weight...keep at it.
One piece of advice that I can give you is to drink lots of water -- you would be amazed at how much water the body retains. Keep doing what you are doing, watch what you eat, drink lots of water and you should start seeing some weight loss. Sometimes it takes the body awhile to adjust.
Good luck!

11. To help myself drink more water, I always squeeze some lemonjuice in it. |
|
It definitely helps to have a little bit of "taste" added to it.

12. I've never been a big water fan, either |
|
but I need to drink alot of it for my kidneys. I started by making sure it's always ice cold and squeezing a wedge of fresh lemon into it. Now I'm drinking it without the lemon most of the time and really don't mind it at all. I've started looking forward to having it because it's become much more refreshing than anything else. I don't drink anything else anymore.
Congrats on quitting smoking. That one is still beyond me, as is the weight loss. Wishing you much success there, too! :hi:

18. drink a little juice or something before |
|
i find drinking water easier after i drink something else with flavor. orange juice always makes me thirsty for some reason. so you can try that. you don't have to have much of it either. just a cup . the water will probably be easier to drink after that.

3. Major props to you, kennedy, for having stopped smoking! |
|
You are doing what you need to do.........
The exercise is very important, but it's not the only thing.........
You do need to be careful of what you're eating too....
I wanted to lose weight......and exercise alone was NOT doing it.
So, I cut out desserts, and that did the trick. The pounds started coming off ......
Slowly......but they came off, and they have stayed off.....
Keep at it, and you will prevail!

4. I will add to the props for quitting! You have done your long |
|
term health the absolute biggest favor possible.
in addition to the desserts note above: you might want to keep a food diary and after a week or two, check out how often you consume the following:
sodas (non diet) sweet tea anything deep fried. beer
The sweet tea really isn't so bad, it isn't nearly as sugary as soda, but still empty calories to an extent.
IF you are a soda junkie and a french fry junkie (I was a major french fry junkie) just cutting out those two things can make a huge difference.
I have to add however: I really could not get it off until I joined Weight Watchers, last October. I have lost 35 pounds so far, and haven't felt a bit deprived..I still eat a big breakfast and still have half and half in my coffee.

www.fitday.com may help you keep track of your food intake (it's free). It seems to be a common problem; does smoking wreck one's metabolism?

19. Congrats on quitting smoking.. now, sadly, you can't eat as much... |
|
You're going to have to change your entire metabolism.
A good way to start is to cut back breakfast. If you can, work out in the morning and don't eat any breakfast until after you've worked out or walked. That way your body burns off the calories stored, not the calories just eaten.
Reduce breakfast to a cup of yogurt, a piece of fruit, muesli with yogurt, something along those lines.
Eat your big meal in the middle of the day and halve it.
For snacks and a very very light dinner, carrots, tomatoes and mozzerella, light pasta, veggies, fruits, a cup of tea, etc.
You don't have to accept the 30 extra pounds. They're easier to lose than quitting smoking.

21. Green tea ups metabolism by 4%. You can get green tea gum at the |
|
pharmacy. Apparently cinamom and hot food helps too. Also weight lift. Muscles burn calories much more than fat..so weight life and build more muscle. Then there is running or something that involves cardio... first 20 minutes just burns the sugar in your system. After that you are burning fat. So do something long and cardio to get rid of the fat.
I too need to do all this.
