2. I'm stupid about these things

5. Do Beagles come in different sizes?

Are there mini-beagles, standard beagles and giant beagles? Every once in awhile, I see a really tall one.

6. Technically, there are two sizes of beagle

13 inches--which are 13 inches tall or less at the withers (shoulders)

and 15 inchers--13-15 inches tall.

BUT the beagle is just one breed of (usually) tri-colored scenthound. These all look alike except for height...in order of height:

13 inch beagle
15 inch beagle
Harrier
American Foxhound
English Foxhound
English Coonhound
Treeing Walker Hound

The giant beagle you saw was probably a coonhound or a foxhound.

They're all beautiful!

Btw, my Grace is actually too tall to be considered a beagle by the AKC standard--but too short to be a harrier! She's one of a kind!
