I drive for a company that requires drivers to team together to deliver time sensitive freight across the country. My first co-driver was a guy and we got along good together. It helped that he was a good driver. Well, his sister died in a car crash while we were on our fifth day together and he was obviously crushed. I had to take him back by his house. That was 7 days ago and I haven't heard from him since. If I don't drive with a co-driver for this company I get paid a cut rate. We're talking about $400 a week this is going to cost me.
So my dispatcher recommends that I drive with someone else instead of waiting for my original co-driver to come back. No telling how long he's going to take. So I say ok. Turns out he's got a female co-driver who needs a partner. I say alright, but in the back of my mind I'm thinking this could be trouble. She's 24 and just out of training. I'm 33 with 10 years experience. I think I can help her out with showing her the ropes, but that's not the problem.
The problem is that you have 2 young people of the opposite sex spending most of their time together in the cab of a truck. There's bound to be some sexual tension. I can already feel it in my phone conversations with her.
Is this a recipe for disaster? Would you be alright in a situation like this? I should add that we are both single. I should also add that I've already thought about all the things that a straight guy would think about in such a situation.

But there are all kinds of complications that could come of this. Would you want someone riding beside you in that cab that constantly reminds you of sex?

not that I have to be 'reminded' of sex, but it would be nice when I'm thinking about it to have someone sitting beside me who is willing and able. Just pull over.

It actually works for most scratched discs. It's made by Maxwell.

I would simply tell her, "Why don't we do it in the road?"

I think this will be all right....IF....
You keep your mind on the driving, your eyes on the road, and your hands on the wheel.....
And when she's driving, you can sleep or whatever.......
You are bigger than any passion, my friend.....you are a professional.

There are other problems that can occur when in that intimate setting. I once told myself that I would never drive with a female for fear of a false sexual harrassment charge against me. I guess that's my biggest fear. That may not say a whole lot about my attitude towards women, but I think it's a realistic view.

The tension is going to be there to begin with. She's female in a male dominated profession. She's possibly defensive when it comes to any criticism from anyone. There are many areas where you will have to tread lightly as will she. Now as for the sexual tension, yes, it can and probably will be an issue. The problem is how do you not let it interfere with your job? I've never run with anyone other than the person I was already in a relationship with and we had no problems that way. Our life together on the road was a good one. As a trainer for a truck driving school I saw many singles deal with sexual tension. 4 students per Unit and often times one of them was female. It definitely interfered with the day's lessons.
This may not be a problem Droopy, and I think the fact that you are considering all the issues is a good thing. Hopefully she's someone you get along with and she's open to your guidance as far as your driving experience goes. We can all learn a lot from those who have gone there before. I hope she's a safe driver. How long has she been driving and why isn't she partnered now? These are answers I'd have to have before I considered a driving partner. I mean, we're talking 24/7, but you know this.
good luck :)

added these lyrics :)
Artist: Paul Evans & The Curls Song: Seven Little Girls Sitting in the Back Seat Words and Music by Bob Hilliard and Lee Pockriss
(Dee doody doom doom, dee doody doom doom) (Dee doody doom doom, DOOM)
Seven little girls sittin' in the back seat Huggin and a'kissin with Fred I said "why don't one of you come up and sit beside me?" And this is what the seven girls said
CHORUS (All together now, one, two, three) (Keep you mind on your drivin') (Keep you hands on the wheel) (Keep your snoopy eyes on the road ahead) (We're havin' fun sittin' in the back seat kissin' and a'huggin with Fred) (Dee doody doom doom, dee doody doom doom) (Dee doody doom doom, DOOM)
Drove through the town, drove through the country Showed 'em how a motor could go I said "how do you like my triple carburetor?" And one of them whispered low
CHORUS
Seven little girls smoochin' in the back seat Every one in love with Fred I said "you don't need me, I'll get off at my house" And this is what the seven girls said
(All together now, one, two, three) (Keep you mind on your drivin') (Keep you hands on the wheel) (Keep your snoopy eyes on the road ahead) (We're havin' fun sittin' in the back seat kissin' and a'huggin with Fred)
All of them in love with Fred (Dee doody doom doom) Kissin' and a'huggin with Fred (Dee doody doom doom) Wish that I could be like Fred

She is right out of training. One month experience plus driving school. She's not partnered now because she just got out of training. I'm cool with that. I've heard that women on average are safer drivers than men. That's why you all get lower insurance premiums. I guess the problem isn't her's. It's mine. I guess I can always try to drive with someone else if this turns out to be not such a good deal.

There ain't too much walkin' around with boobs that I'm not attracted to. After a couple of months on the road a knot hole in a tree starts looking pretty good to a man. Forgive me for being crude, but that's the facts of life.
Some dude who looks at pussy every day for a living might be a little particular, but there ain't no man who will turn it down after a while. There was onced a woman on DU who said that all women are attractive on some level or else there would be no human race. That is the absolute truth.

hot female drivers that I saw. I never saw any like in your picture. There were some that looked a little rugged, but that can be a good thing. My sister has her CDL and she's a femme as they come, she went to her graduation (from Alliance) in a skirt and heels.

28. i suppose it could be, Droopy, but you've got the game plan already... |
|
figured out; seems it's always better to get the freight where it needs to be first, that's the pro thing to do, and your concern indicates professionalism first...teach the pup, if she turns out to be too goofy can you ask to have her transfered?
