DU has prepared me to be a Dear Abby...well sort of...

The strangest thing happened to me today. One of our guests, who came over for our cookout, completely unloaded his problems on me...out of the blue. I didn't even know he was having marital problems. Apparently, he and his wife fight all the time, she threatens to leave, and they fight over money a lot. He sort of stopped, after 5 minutes or so, and apologized...telling me he was sure I didn't want to listen to all of it. I reassured him that I have heard many stories over the past few months, with my friends on the internet, and his was by no means unusual. After he got home, he called to reassure us everything was ok...seems his wife just needed a little breather from their 2 noisy kids. And, now that they are all reunited, my headache has finally subsided. Everyone is happy. I'm happy. And, I wanted to thank DU, especially the lounge, for teaching me how to be a better "Dear Abby!"

how outrageously awful it all was, and we'll snicker & commiserate, and they won't be able to defend themselves, so all-in-all, it would be better if they didn't invite you.
