Where else can you get Tony Orlando singing the praises of America live on TV????

Maybe 'Dawn' will do a set by themselves!!!!!!!! Dream on.

2. Is Ed McMahon still doing those things, also?

"Jerry, here's the President of ExxonMobil to give you a check for $5,000"

It's a good cause, but that telethon is just unwatchable.

3. The telethon sucks
it portrays people with disabilities as objects of pity.

Disability rights activists have been known to picket it:

http://www.cripcommentary.com/faq.html

The "Jerry Lewis" telethon of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The telethon feeds out-dated stereotypes about people with muscle diseases and other disabilities. For 21 hours, on 200 stations, it makes people think that we are doomed to sad and tragic lives unless they find a cure. In a 1990 magazine article, Lewis called us "half persons." He's called kids with muscle diseases "mistakes who came out wrong." He's compared protesters -- like us -- to Nazi storm troopers. His most recent retort (5/20/01, CBS Sunday Morning) was: "Pity? You don't want to be pitied for being a cripple in a wheelchair? Stay in your house." Lewis refuses to apologize or change his ways, and MDA stands firm beside him.

Nazi storm troopers, eh? Could Jerry Lewis be in cahoots with Rumsfeld? :eyes:

Plus the damn thing is on the ABC station here, so there goes my last chance to see Rosie on The View until flippin' Election Day. :P

5. 1.3 billion in 40 years
The activists can go fuck themselves.

Yeah the MDA telethon pushes some buttons at times. That is how you get people to donate money.

4. I watched a whole 40 seconds of it.
Then he started talking in that "Laaady!" voice and I had enough.

He no longer looks bloated from whatever medication he was taking (steroids?).
