Sen. James DeMint (R-SC) drives like an asshole!!!
:grr: On my way home from Atlanta yesterday, I was driving through SC below Greenville on I-85, and there was this idiot in a silver Grand Marquis driving like a jerkoff. Kept speeding up, slowing down, speeding up, slowing down, over and over.... I was driving at a steady speed, but when he was slow, I'd pass him. He'd speed up and pass a whole line of cars (doing about 90 mph), then when he had passed, go slow again. :eyes: He was talking on his cell phone all during this. I also noticed he had a funky license plate but didn't get close enough to actually see what it said. I got a good look at him one of those times, and he looked like a businessman in a suit (on a Sunday afternoon). I stopped a little further up the road to get gas, and there was a Dairy Queen right beside the gas station. Lo and behold, Idiot Boy was in line at the DQ drive-thru. I wanted to see what kind of a license plate the jerk had, so I got back in my car and drove close enough to read it. Holy crap! It said "UNITED STATES SENATOR" and was a South Carolina tag that was a special design. The only number on the license plate was 1. (Gee, how self-serving...Hoo-wee!!! I'm Number One!!!!) I drove back around to the gas station and filled up, then I hit the road again.

Well, guess who passed me a little while later, eating a DQ ice cream cone AND talking on his cell phone at the same time and not paying attention to the road???? I lost him about half an hour later, thank goodness. I knew SC had only Repuke senators, so I knew it was either DeMint or Lindsay Graham. DeMint is actually from the Greenville area, so I figured it was him. When I got home, I looked up his website, and sure enough, that's who it was.

South Carolina should be proud of its Repuke senators. They drive safely and do such a good job in Washington. :sarcasm: Maybe he should have been driving one of the VW Asshats we talked about a few days ago....

3. I'm glad he didn't hurt you, or anyone else, NewWaveChick.
I guess he saves hurting people for the Senate Chamber.

5. I suggest we get a South Carolinian DUer to call DeMint's office
and call for two House Resolutions condemning ice-cream eating and another condemning cell=phone conversations while driving.

We can get every Lounge Lizard and a few other DUers to sign a petition requesting same, then he'll be sure to bring it up on the House floor (as long as he doesn't know it was done through us).

And then--pass the popcorn--we can all watch and laugh hysterically at the House hearings together--not to mention swarming the office with phone calls to the effect of, well...

BOOGITY-BOOGITY!

My hubby's just now getting up today and so I'm a bit on the weird side of humor, I must admit.

13. Doesn't SC still have the highest fatal DUI-caused crash rate in the U.S.?
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 07:41 AM by BlueIris
Nothing against our wonderful DU members from the Palmetto State, I'm sure none of you would ever consider driving drunk, but--the last time I looked at the number of fatal car accidents in each state across the nation on a bar graph, S.C.'s numbers, especially those that were caused by drivers impaired by substances, were off. the. chart. So I guess I'm not surprised that one of the state's prominent officials, particularly a Republican one, drives like a maniac, too.

14. That sounds about right.
I had seen similar statistics a while back. Every time I drive in SC, I see more idiot drivers on the road than in NC or GA (and that includes Atlanta). Unfortunately, I think you're right. :(
