Ok My own Steve Irwin thread!
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 11:12 AM by GoPsUx
I've read a lot of threads making fun of the Crocodile Hunter.
And fun is fun..But never forget he was a man who left behind a family that now has to deal with the loss of a loved one.
His wife is now a widow And his Children Now are fatherless.
I just think people should consider this while they are poking fun at a family's loss.

Laugh and flame away

1. No flame or laugh here
I mourn his loss and I think the world is a worse place without him. That energy and enthusiasm of his was contagious. He will be missed. :(

4. Steve Irwin said a lot of very interesting things in his interview
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 11:41 AM by KC2
with Larry King, which was replayed late last night. He not only answered the questions concerning his son being held while feeding a crock, but he answered his critics about the concern over animals being displayed and showcased (for instance, his zoo in Australia). I found his message almost prophetic. Irwin explained how children need to touch and feel...to see animals up-close ...and to learn about them. He continued, by explaining how people won't try to preserve what they don't know. And, Irwin talked about the urgency of conservation-- in terms of the here and now.

Possibly, some of the anger and hostility seen on these boards over Irwin, might have been better put to use on those who didn't care at all about animals or their welfare. IMHO.

As for his death: CNN was reporting only 2 documented fatalities in Australia have been by stingrays. It is very, very rare. And, I venture to say, if Irwin had lived through it, he wouldn't have blamed the animal at all.

6. I play "Crocodile Hunter" with my cats
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 11:54 AM by LostinVA
I crawl across the floor and observe them, 5then catch them -- all while narrating my actions with a really bad Aussie accent.

No laughs from me, mate!

(Of course, the cats find it all quite boring.)

7. Not making light of the loss.
Just pointing out what a funny dude he was. After all the chances he took, I never figured he'd be done in by something as non-aggressive as a stingray. Crikey! This is the deadly king cobra that I have grabbed by the tail and is he ever irritated!

9. RIP Steve. God bless Terry, Bindi and Bob and keep them safe.
        cry:

My own father died suddenly when I was 17. It was the single most horrible event in my entire life and absolutely devastating to me, my siblings and my mother.   Our family has never really recovered emotionally from the shock, sadness and despair. It has gotten better, but my life was completely and utterly changed from that day forward. :(

Those poor children and Terri are in deep shock and mourning now. I can only hope that they can, someday, take comfort in knowing that Steve was a good man, a loving husband and father, a conservationist and educator who was beloved by millions around the world and who will deeply missed by his fans.
