Waterworld II - Costner Makes Oscar Bid

By Reynaldo Guzman and David Steinmetz

Is America Ready?

(Hollywood) Kevin Costner is set to reprise his role as "Mariner" in a sequel to the 1995 box office disaster "Waterworld."

In a seeming bid to put some life in his flagging career and to move up from the Hollywood "C" list, Costner has partnered with Steven Spielberg to, in a statement by Costner's production company, "expand the story of the Mariner and hopefully give people some insight into a very compelling world that didn't get the treatment it deserved."
