List movies that leave you with a crappy feeling.
"Death to Smoochie" comes to mind. One of the worst movies I ever sat through.

5. Just about all of the TV shows, remakes, and sequels
Really, is Hollywood THAT desperate for ideas? Most of those movies are pretty shitty anyways, and they seem to get worse by the year.

6. High Art
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 01:32 PM by idgiehkt
Sid & Nancy
Drugstore Cowboy
My Own Private Idaho
Truth or Consequences, New Mexico
Riding in Cars with Boys
Bastard out of Carolina (the rape scene in that overwhelms the entire movie even though it had to be done as it's central to the plot)
Apocalypse Now
Beloved (crappy is not the word, more like post-traumatic stress disorder)

that's all I can think of right now

I guess I should say these are mostly all great films, but they aren't 'up-lifting' so to speak. I wouldn't even bother making a list of films that are just generally 'bad'.

9. sad thing is
they cleaned it up quite a bit from the book...

which is autobiographical...

and, the book is a cleaned up version of Dorothy Allison's childhood, in which, to this day, her mom is still married to the man that raped her, broke her arm and her coccyx and God knows what else during her childhood.

15. I have mixed feelings about 'Ripley'
By the end of the film I was rooting for him but I really hate that he killed his lover, that broke me up. Matt Damon was amazing in that, I thought.

it was hard not to like the character...disturbing really, when you think about it.

agree on Matt Damon's acting in the film. he pulled it off, hence the sympathy for a psycho

18. Happiness.
Not a bad movie but because of it's subject matter and dialogue, it's like sitting naked in a fiberglass insulated bed. You have to take nine showers after watching it.

Same with Oldboy and Irreversible.

20. i think requiem for a dream takes the cake - dancer in the dark as well
(dancer in the dark) stars bjork and while i will occasionally shed a tear or two at movies (i am not much of a crier), this one had the tears pouring down my cheeks, it was so awful (the ending, not the movie)

Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 02:23 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
"Glory"

"The Yearling"

All depressing as shit.... :(

On edit: I should add that my boyfriend at the time was so bummed out after "Glory" that he asked me to marry him! :D Sure, that's just the memory I wanted for the rest of my life. "So, how did he ask you to marry him?".....

23. Element of Crime
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 02:25 PM by Mike03
Lars Von Trier's "Element of The Crime"--it took me three attempts to even watch the entire thing, and it left me feeling extremely agitated and angry (and confused).

"The Hours"--One of my favorite films, but I also find it very upsetting.

"Leaving Las Vegas" -- Never understood the big deal about this film.

"Requiem for A Dream" -- Great film, but starkly disturbing.

"House of Sand and Fog" - Fantastically beautiful film, but they should distribute it with Prozac.

30. ditto on both of those
I still haven't gotten over Fight Club. It seems to eroticize violence between men but that is just my take on it. I guess only men can really understand what that film is about.

27. Seven
It was an excellent movie, in many ways, especially the acting by Pitt, Freeman and Kevin Spacey.

It was also a hopeless and bleak view of mankind.
