Okay! ENOUGH! Does anyone else have a spazz attack at the word "hubby"? |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 04:20 PM by WritingIsMyReligion
Seriously. The man is your HUSBAND. That's seven letters long, not five. Not only does the word LOOK weird to me, but it sounds like pure weirdness. And yes, I do know people who actually--IN REAL LIFE!!--refer to their husbands as "Hubby."
:banghead:
AHHH! The pure juvenile torment!! My skin just about crawls away at the thought of it.
No offense to those of you who do it, but it just weirds me out on so many levels. Not only does it sound, to me, like something coming from the mouth of a five-year-old, but it's one of those "sickly sweet" words that really irks me.
:scared::scared:

2. My name is Catherine. That's nine letters long. |

I usually go by Cathy. That's five letters long.
I'm not getting what difference the number of letters makes.
Hub, hubby, husband. Doesn't bother me.

There's nothing there to lisp.

I just call him "my husband". Of course, there are various and sundry other nicknames. "Captain Software". "Honey". "Honey Bunny". He finally put his foot down over "cupcake".
He calls me "Honey" most of the time.

It's just the sheer...bubbliness!...of it that drives me over the edge.
Also--"WHEN" I get married?? Rather presumptuous, to assume that I'll marry. I may well, and I may well not. Or I might be a lesbian, and have nothing to do with loving a man.

I'm hoping that gay and straight relationships will be legally recognized across the country, and this will have been implemented years before. Ninety five percent of the population marries at one time or another, so it's not a leap to think that you might someday.
>Or I might be a lesbian, and have nothing to do with loving a man.<
Could be, but I believe the discussion was on the word "hubby", was it not?

7. Take a deep breath.... |
|
I belong to two other message boards that use abbreviations like DH for Dear Husband and DW for Dear Wife, FIL for father-in-law, etc. Fewer keystrokes, that's for sure. Since DU doesn't have that kind of abbreviation recognition, I type "hubby" instead of "my husband" since it takes fewer keystrokes. I'm not going to type his name here. Once or twice, I have jokingly called him "hubby" to his face. He goes by a nickname rather than his real name, and I have a few other things I call him depending on my mood.
Sorry to have offended you. It's not juvenile---it's a matter of keystrokes. :)

29. Well, IMO that's a silly thing to have a spazz attack about |
|
In fact, the term "spazz attack" really strikes me as wierd and juvenile on so many levels.
Not really, but I think you probably get the point. "Hubby" is quicker to write than "husband" - that's the only reason I occasionally use it. He's not even my husband technically - we're not married but "boyfriend" sounds pretty ridiculous to me when you're 45 years old. I use "SO" sometimes, too, but I don't really like that either and, as someone else pointed out, I'm not going to use his real name.
What possible difference does it make? It's simply a term to make the reader understand to whom one is referring.
Personally, the misuse of "who" or "whom" and the obnoxious tendency for people to say "where are you at?" make me far more crazy. But I don't start threads about it. ;)

I don't give a damn about those--it's the mere feel, taste, look of the word "hubby" that drives me mad. I'm not sure what it is--maybe it's the fact that it's missing the "s," and the "s" is crucial to the word "husband" to have it keep that same essential look.

My grandparents did it: called each other Mother and Father instead of by their names. I guess once you had kids in those days, that became the defining factor of your life. My parents called each other by their names - at least during the time they were married. Thereafter they used other words. ;)
