she was diagnosed with kidney and pancreas problems this past thrusday- et said she had never seen the counts so high

yesterday she had iv treatment and a couple shots - tes rest of the day was not good for her. This morning she couldn't stand, wouldn't eat or drink.

I'm sorry to hear that. You did the right thing, though, if that's any comfort.

And I'm jealous of your upcoming Mastiff - I adore them. Take care.

13. thank-you all
it's been kinda rough past year 1/2 - last year (summer of '02) we lost two of our cats less than a month apart

Ches was 22, and his age caught up with him
Something was only 8, but developed a liver disease, she went quick

And now Rhonda, she was 15, terrier-chihuahua mix. She had a big heart, wasn't afraid of anything. Back my partner's airedale into a corner on the first day we all met, and followed that up by attacking my partner's ex's ankles a couple of months later...

It didn't take us long to bring in two new cats - Pookah, grey tuxedo and master mouser, followed a few months later by GATO, alias CAT-Zilla (he was a stray hanging around my workplace and I brought him home on New Years eve a few hours ahead of a snowstorm)

my partner and I had been discussing getting a Mastiff when the time came, she use to raise and breed them and still has alot of contacts among mastiff breeders - so after the holidays are settled she will make some phone calls and put the word out - with any luck we'll have a monster-puppy in the spring

Yeah, we're "super sizing" from extra-small to extra-extra-large

16. OH, I'm so sorry, Radfringe!
My Toro is a chi with a little more terrier in him than standard.
I'm so sad Rhonda has passed, but it sounds like she had a wonderful, long life thanks to your love and attention.

And I'm sorry about your kitties, too.

I'll say a prayer for them all tonight as Slicker snuggles up next to me...

20. Sorry, sorry for your loss.
I have lost 2 dogs in the past 5 years and know your pain. It is like losing a child. But please adopt your next dog from a rescue so to at least save one poor soul from being euthanized.

it's never easy, even when it is their time...

A good friend of mine wants a mastiff, and has been working with this site for mastiff rescues: http://www.mastiffrescuesw.com/

That site covers the US west, but if you're not in that area, I'm sure they know of some rescues in your area if you're interested.

Losing a pet is so hard. My thoughts are with you...

PS -- my sister and I saw an English Mastiff this evening. 200 pounds of dog!!! What a massive creature -- but a wonderful dog. So gentle and loving. Good choice!

27. Sorry for your loss....
it hurts to have a pet put down. This year, my family has lost all of our pets we've had for most of my life. So far, I've lost a cat my family has had for 17 years, died suddenly in January (he was 18), a dog we had since '87, put to sleep in April from kidney/liver failure (she was 15..I think), another dog of ours put to sleep in August from kidney failure (she was also 15), and finally, we had to put my cat Peewee up for adoption, who we had for 11 years, in August (he was 12 - mom and dad moved and didn't want him to claw everything new up).

It hurts a lot, but we got a new pekignese pup that now keeps us company. :)

Hang in there, radfringe. My thoughts are with you.

... I lost my 16-year-pal Chester just the monday before Thanksgiving and I'm still bawling my eyes out several times a day. He was the most intuitive and communicative cat -- such a pal.

And so I know (as do many other DU-ers) just how you're feeling. It's just so damn hard to be without them.

Take care of yourself.
