Beer experts - help me out. Does one serve porter warm or cold? |
|
It's in the fridge & I'll be drinking it in an hour; should I take it out & let it come to room temperature or leave it in and let it chill?
:toast: Thanks!

2. Tough call. In Britain the rule is "room temperature" meaning not |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 08:24 PM by Aristus
the temp of the room YOU are in, but the temp of the room the kegs are in (presumably a cellar, nice and cool).
The "room temp." rule of thumb gave rise to the notion that Brits drink beer warm, which they don't in my experience. When I was drinking in English pubs, the beer was cool enough to enjoy but not too cold to mask the flavor. It was just right. :9  :9
Over in the States, throw the porter in the fridge for twenty minutes or so before serving.

Cool, but not ice cold. Stout is best that way, so it should be good enough for porters, too.

But considering few are this precise in how cool they keep things, I typically leave the bottle in a cool refrigerator for 30-40 minutes.
