Why would a guy like Chuck D hang out with a zero like Flava flav? |
|
These are the questions that keep me up at night.

over.
Flava is too powerful a stage personality for PE to have gotten rid of him.
I saw that on a VH1 documentary about PE the other day

3. The band has been over for years though |

The quotation was from the period of time where Flava Flav was getting fucked up all the time.

7. yeah, it wasn't half bad either... |
|
it didn't get the best reviews, there were a few forgettable tracks, but it's something that any public enemy fan can appreciate...
it was called "new whirl order" (terrible fucking title)

As a member of Public Enemy, Flavor Flav was part hype-man, part flesh-and-blood cartoon character, yet he was far more than his spastic dance moves, oversize sunglasses, and mouthful of gold teeth.
More than a mere fool, he was hip-hop's Fool in a grand Shakespearean fashion. His comic relief played off rapper Chuck D's agitprop lyrics and the Bomb Squad's angry wall of sound production, and befitting a man whose signature accessory was a dinner-plate sized clock dangling from his scrawny neck, Flav always knew what time it was.
Like the Fool in Shakespeare's ''King Lear," Flav knew more than he showed, and he was no less politically minded than Chuck D. His purposeful simplicity allowed him to deliver bitter truths whether he was dismissing such icons as Elvis Presley and John Wayne in ''Fight the Power," or denouncing police negligence is ''911 Is a Joke."
Now, sadly, it's Flavor Flav who's the joke, a reality-TV clown.http://www.boston.com/ae/tv/articles/2005/01/25/strange_tale_of_flavor_flav_rappers_cred_takes_hit?mode=PFand here's what chuck D had to say about the whole ungodly mess: http://www.publicenemy.com/index.php?page=page3&item=87

12. I agree with Chuck D that that stuff should never have been |
|
put on the air about his conflict with his ex-wife and the kids that he doesn't 'appreciate' or whatever...I hope he becomes wise enough some day to regret allowing that stuff into the public sphere because it just sounds really, really sad. Even though the new show is really tacky and dumb and I don't watch it it's better than doing the other kind of thing where his most painful stuff is trotted out on tv.

Why would parents give their children names like Flava Flav... that's my growing concern. It's almost as bad as Snoopy Dog-Dog

I'm still trying to figure out just what talent Flava Flav brought to Public Enemy. The mastery of "Fear of a Black Planet" and "It Takes a Nation of Millions..." is all out of the noggin of Chuck D, one of the most brilliant rap meistros ever, and a reminder that rap at one time was worth a shit instead of being about the bling-bling, big asses, and nonsensical tripe lyrics.

Sometimes bands... er... umm... musical groups have weird, eccentric people they stick out in front to draw in interest.
Shit, this one Portland band I saw once hired this crazy old homeless guy to twirl around on stage while they played music. Apparently he enjoyed doing it so I guess it wasn't too exploitive.
I thought it was kind of weird that Chuck D would criticize that reality show about Flava Flav, considering...
