Not medical advise, just a question |
|
If the surgeon only gave me 20 pills for pain and I took them as prescribed, will it be easy for me to get more? I am almost out and I think I will need more for a few more days. What are the chances they will prescribe me more if I ask?

1. Depends on the doctor. |
|
Some are really strict and some are really lax. I could probably go to my doctor, tell him I get frequent headaches, he'd take my blood pressure & heart rate (always allegedly perfect) and give me a morphine prescription.

3. If you've had surgery, and are still in pain, then he/she would.... |
|
...probably give you another prescription. I'm an old hand at having surgeries, and most - actually all - of my doctors have said that if I was still in pain, to let them know, and they would write another one.

The thing is, I live alone and have had to still do things on my own without any help. I am trying to rest, but I still need to do things.

I have had more than enough scrips written for painkillers and if it's not enough and you are still in pain....
For the first refill they will usually do it. The second one they will suspect habit/med-seeking, but may prescribe anyway. The third is almost always out unless it is major surgery.

I'm sorry to hear that you're doing stuff on your own after your surgery...
Thought you were going to be getting some help?
But definitely call your doc.....let him know the situation.....
Good luck, sweetie!

8. Well, I am pretty good on my own |
|
I have a lot of people who are watching out for me, but I didn't think it was worth putting anyone out just so I can take it easy. But thanks Peggy, you really are a sweetheart.

17. Typically They Will Re-Scrip Once |
|
Of course, it depends on the doctor, but i think most of the time they'll give you an extra X days. (As long as you're not overusing.)
If it still hurts after the second set, they usually want to see you to figure out why it isn't getting better. The Professor

18. My doctor does ( I have a standing script) but my father just had |
|
open kidney surgery (think a cut from mid front to almost mid back). His original prescription was for 30. He called for a refill and they never got back to him. When he tried calling again he got a lecture on the habit forming nature of the meds. So, 30 pills for a 28 inch long incision. I think it was a screw up on their part and that they thought they had written one when he called in the first time. But, just to warn you, some doctors are idiots.
Feel better.
