Wow. Ohio State won by only 17 points? |
|
Against a redshirt freshman quarterback in only his second start in NCAA football?
I want to see this game again next year - when that quarterback is a bit more seasoned.

I actually think McCoy did a fairly good job in his first big game. His teammates seem to truly support his progress. They'll have to step it up for him - they're used to relying on Vince Young to be the great playmaker. :)

11. DISAGREE! Ohio State lost 9 players to the NFL - 5 first round draft picks |
|
Texas has a much more seasoned team, especially on defense AND they were IN Austin. The young QB was actually very good and was hardly the reason they lost (I think he threw one interception).
Very impressive win for Ohio State. :-)

12. Wow. And Texas couldn't score against a defense that lost 9 starters |
|
This just in:
Ohio State is the better team.
But playing "what if" is fun, too.
I guess.
P.S. Was the freshman QB also playing cornerback for Texas??

We just chose not to. :)
PS Maybe the freshman QB WAS playing cornerback. That would explain why you couldn't see the CB in the film clips after each throw--he was sitting on the bench with his headphones on.

It's really quite sad sometimes to see folks pile on a kid like McCoy. True, he may not be another Vince Young (yea, like THEY come along once a week), but I mean he's a freshman, for goodness sakes.
I thought he played as well as could be expected. Given time, he'll be a good quarterback, Texas will be just fine (they can recruit like nobody's business) and the world will keep turning.
OSU was just the better team. They are an absolute monster on offense this year, and as long as Tressel lets Smith be Smith then I hope to see them playing for the NC this year.
As for Texas, somehow I just have this feeling they might not be too bad either... :)

13. It wasn't McCoy's fault. He made several critical throws that wound up |
|
being dropped. He made one really stupid throw to start the second half, but aside from that he was pretty good.
OSU was just better coached. The players were more patient, the game plan was adjusted throughout to exploit UT's weaknesses. UT players were loose, running weak routes, hoping their talent would make up for them being out of position, as it did the week before against UNT. UT was still running the same two offensive plays at the end as they ran at the beginning. Everyone in the stands could predict an option tossback was coming, or a delay up the middle. Brown was a weak coach before Vince Young, and last night he looked like the Mack Brown of old--the one who recruits enough talent to beat all the weak teams on their schedule but is too weak a coach to beat the one or two top teams he plays each year. Even after McCoy made a couple of nice passes, Brown was afraid to use his throwing arm much. He coaches like he's afraid of losing.
Brown has never won by coaching, he's always won by recruiting. Hopefully McCoy will develop into the genius he needs to be, and he'll overcome Brown's weakness. If not, we'll have another 9-2 season. Those numbers look good on paper, but they hide the way Brown consistently loses to top opponents--except when Vince Young is his QB.
That's my take, anyway. I didn't think either team looked like a national champion last night. OSU had at least three clear touchdown passes dropped. And Texas's one score came after the officials gave us four more downs on the goalline for a questionable "helmet to helmet" call.

How many points do you need to win by?
A win is a win is a win....
and "only 17 points?" You make is sound like tOSU was playing Akron or Bowling Green

They beat the No. 2 team in the nation, but only by only 17 points. They broke the longest winning streak in the nation, but only by 17 points. They beat Texas on its home field, which has happened only last three times in the past six years, but only won by 17 points. They held a team that has been averaging 40 points per game to just 7 points, but only won by 17 points. They held the No. 2 team in the nation to only three trips inside the red zone, but only won by 17 points.
