I was thinking about getting married... |
|
first I need to get a date though I guess. Well, first I would actually have to want to get one. Then she would have to never want to do anything during Friday Night Smackdown. Or on Saturday so I could get up early and watch politics. Then she would have to let me read and write all the time.
And put up with my childishness. My ego too.
Ok, this went downhill fast.
Maybe I will just stay a bachelor.

Find a partner who has a life of her own, and you won't have to worry about giving up Friday Night Smackdown, Saturday morning political shows, or reading and writing all the time. Hey, it worked for Call Me Wesley. :D

It's bad for a couple to be like conjoined twins. Time apart with thier own freinds and thier own interests keeps people from annoying eachother over little things.

Being a bachelor isn't so bad. :) If I had it to do all over again, I would not have gotten married. To ANYONE. I mean, I love my husband, but sometimes I just can't stand being married. There are a lot of happily married people out there, and I'm very happy for them. :D However, there are some pretty crappy marriages too, and I don't wish that on anyone. My marriage falls on the better end of crappy, but it's still kind of crappy. :(
Probably TMI, but there you go. :P

I loved your post. I'm single. Engaged twice, but both times wised up before it was too late. I SO understand how you feel.
Maybe TMI, but it made me smile. And laugh. :)

I waited a LONG time to get married after I started dating him (9 years between meeting and marriage), and I still wasn't 100% sure at that point. It's been 14 years since tying the knot. We've had a lot of problems, and he has yet to grow up. As I said before, I love him, but I've come close to leaving four times in the past couple of years, and if there is a fifth time, I WILL leave for good.
Consider yourself lucky. :D You made the right decisions!

Need proof? I am married to PetersonD, and I think you know most of what comes with that since you are somewhat familiar with him. Just read the thread about people who think its funny to scare others. Don't even get me started on the baseball and football that constantly airs at our house. Oh, and no one will ever forget the Superman obsession. But it goes further, I finally had to put my foot down and say, "No! Castle Grayskull will not be placed on my mantle!" Whew, I feel better now;)
Despite all of the habits, obsessions, and behaviors, that's not what I focus on when I look at him. I focus on the times he has been there when no one else was. I focus on the sweet things he does when he thinks I am not looking. I focus on the way he is willing to clean up my puke when I am sick (now that's love). When you find her, she will know the things you do, but love you for who you are. Collective sigh, now I must try to hide the Royals bobblehead he just put on my mantle.

i don't know how old you are, but it seems once you reach a certain age, it's really hard to meet new people in general and it's even harder to find a partner because everyone has so much baggage and most of us are very set in our ways!
the whole thing sucks!

I'm short and I have a life.
Caveat: I'm already betrothed to a couple of other DU guys. We haven't quite worked out all the logistics of that yet. Depending on where the marriage laws go, we may all have to convert to Mormonism, or secede from the country entirely and form our own polygymous democracy. But if you can put up with that I'm pretty sure we can work something out.
