I never learned the art of selfishness |
|
My first instinct is always to put others first
it's nearly killed and bankrupted me.
I need a crash course in being selfish.
Any ideas or suggestions?

i haven't learned the art either. although, technically, giving of myself is selfish; i do it because it makes me happy.
i think you and i are kindred spirits.

6. It has to do with establishing proper boundaries |
|
You have to learn to be assertive, which is not the same thing as being aggressive or violating others boundaries. The first time that this was suggested to me it seemed like such an alien concept from everything that I had grown up with. You always have a right to say no. Inconviencing someone by asserting yourself is not selfish, at least in a bad way. You have as much right to look out for yourself as anyone else.

7. My idea: have an ice cream |

(or whatever suits your fancy). You deserve some sort of reward.
Selfishness will only "kill" and "bankrupt" you in other ways.
