Poll question: Do You believe in Love at 1st date? |
|
I started to post "Love at first sight" but thinking back on the times I fell for some sweet thing only to find out that they were either Republican, Not very Bright, Nasty and selfish... or any combination of the three, I decided to be a little more Realistic with the Poll.

4. Ouch! I have a question for you >>> |
|
Do people that use these "Match places" usually find someone fairly close to home? I ask cause I've heard of people flying across the country and all that....

12. After many first dates, I did meet someone on match.com |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 06:48 PM by notmyprez
We've been seeing each other for about five months now. No "L-word" yet, but we're just taking things slow and letting them happen in their own time. It's been great so far.

Falling immeaditly for a girl who turned out to be a republican. While the love at first sight faded she saw the error of her ways and is now a democrat.

5. Of course, love almost always happens that way--first date |
|
or first meeting. Also, of course it almost always happens that particular part of love is exactly equal to lust and it fades, often quickly. And that's a good thing.
The kind of love that keeps people together for years and years is not brought on like that: it's a direct result of an effort by the person doing the loving, sometimes a coordinated effort, sometimes not.
If a first date falling in love happens to two people who are also willing to do the work required to make it real and keep it happening, that often is a lucky accident.

7. 20+ years of marriage for me after I never went home after the 1st date |
|
He cooked dinner, great sex (yep, I put out on the first date back then - I never did want to waste a lot of time on a guy who was a lousy lover), excellent conversation, progressive Dem - I am lucky but personally I know a few others who've found love on the first date. I'm not so sure how rare it is....

8. 21 years married. First date a 2 hour conversation over drinks |
|
Next morning, I got out of the shower and realized I had forgotten to wash my hair I was so distracted thinking about this man I had just met the previous night.
So, yes, definitely, love at first date is possible!

That is how it usually was for me. Of course, sometimes I turned out to be wrong. I think that if you are in a situation where you are open to that possibility and are out with another attractive person who you get along with who is open to that possibility that is likely to happen. There have been situations where it had taken longer but that was because I wasn't initially considering that person that way (as a potential date/lover/partner).

10. I fell in love with my man on the first date |
|
I went to work the next day and told a friend, "He's the one I've waited 40 years for."
Five and a half years later, we're still like newlyweds. :loveya:

I have several friends to whom that has happened. Granted, it doesn't happen a lot, but happen it does.

16. I believe in love at first sight..Just not mutual love at first sight. |
|
I think many people fall in love with a fantasy or with hope if that makes any sense. I have fallen in love many times in my life and I think it's natural and Ok. As for a soulmate..I hope there is one out there..but I sure as shit am tired of searching for this holy grail. I know for a fact that I can love unconditionaly..But to believe in another soul who would return the same love ..I find myself quite skeptical.

Sure, for many people it's lust, not love, or an illusion of what you think that person is; however I think the possibility exists. It happened to me.
I'm not with that man anymore, but we were together 6 years and still maintain a close friendship; I don't think that makes it any less valid because it didn't last for the rest of our lives...

19. Sure. I met my husband on a Friday night. |
|
We were sure of each other by Tuesday.
Within three weeks we were engaged, and three months to the day after we met, we were married.
We've been married nine years.
