A question for mechanics. |
|
This morning, I had a bit of a problem starting my car. It kept dying out, but finally started. Then this afternoon when leaving my office, I had a problem starting it again. It kept dying, but finally started. Then when I stopped for a red light, it died again, but finally started up. I had no more problems on the way home, but I am dropping it off at my mechanic tomorrow morning because I do not want to get stuck on the road. It seemed like the car was not getting the gas. I just wanted to know what the problem could be. My car is a 1999 Taurus.

I'd say there are a few possibilities. 1)It's a FORD. (just kidding!) 2)Alternator 3)Fuel pump

2. Hey, this is my second Ford Taurus. |
|
I really love the Taurus. But thanks for your advice. I was thinking it may be the fuel pump, which I am sure will not be cheap.

4. Try a little fuel injector cleaner |
|
It doesn't quite sound like clogged injectors (you'd have had some loss of acceleration or power before now) but for $4 or less, it's worth checking.

3. Cold start problem? I'm going with the fuel pump or fuel filter. |
|
Fingers crossed that it's just the filter ($$$$).

the fuel pump was my first thought, but, it could be related to the carburetor.

6. I sm pretty sure it is fuel-injected |
|
as most cars of this year are. All I can say, is that I hope it is something cheap, but I'm not counting on it. The garage I use is fairly honest, that is, if there is any such thing as an honest mechanic.
