I had my 1st car accident today
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 06:48 PM by midnight armadillo
Minor fender bender in a parking lot. It scraped up the bumper of my beloved Saab quite a bit :(. Fortunately, no injuries. The appraisal is tomorrow, I'm pretty certain I will be shelling out the full $500 deductible. :hurts:

1. Well, I'm glad that it wasn't a major accident...
Boy, dealing with the insurance company and what not is going to be a "joy." Was it your fault, or somebody else's ?

3. I'd say 50/50
I was backing up, they came out of nowhere and tried to drive around me. 50/50 is probably pretty accurate.

4. You can say 50/50 here, but I sure as heck wouldn't say it to the
insurance adjuster (or the other driver). Be accurate and honest in describing the accident, but don't assign yourself any blame or responsibility (they'll be happy to do that for you! :) ).

Sorry about your car, and I'm glad no one was hurt. That first accident can be a bit nerve-wracking - as can the second, third, fourth...

2. If it was the other person's fault
and you have their insurance info, their company should cover the deductible. You may have to do it out-of-pocket, but eventually you'll receive a check. When I was rear-ended which resulted in my car being totalled, the $500 was deducted from the check I received from my insurance company, but I received a $500 check from the other driver's company much later on.
