Is it OK for a coffeehouse employee to argue with a customer over
how their drink will be made? All I asked for was less ice in my blended chai. When they use 2 scoops of ice, the thing is so cold that it gives me a "cold headache" when I drink it. I ask for half the ice, just so that it's more liquid and less frozen. The fat bitch argued with me over it, saying that it can't be done. (Even though other employees at the same place have done ti with no complaint at all.) I paid for the drink but walked out of the place before they finished making it. I'm still a little in shock an hour later.

4. Well, she is fat, and she is a bitch, so those are the most accurate words
possible in this case.

8. I warned you
Now you can suffer the consequences. You are pissed at her because she was rude not because she is fat. You describe her physical appearance in venting, which while undestandable you can't even see the point in why thay may be wrong. Calling her a bitch is up for debate, but fat is just juvenile.

12. May I suggest you read the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution?

13. May I suggest you fucking back off
How fucking dare you tell me to check the first amendment?!?! While there's plenty about free speech, there sure isn't anything in it to teach you a bit of decency, which is the only point I was trying to make to you in my first response.

As Bertha stated below - if this woman was Black.. would you be calling her a N*gger now? I doubt it - because it's offensive. The same reaction can be taken by your choice of words to describe this woman who God forbid didn't get your fucking drink the way you like it. :eyes:

14. No wonder Democrats lose so many elections - afraid to tell the truth.
I would never use the "N word." As for decency, you should read your own posts to decide how much you have.

Unless nini is a governmental institution, your 1st amendment rights aren't the least bit triggered.
:eyes:

Edited to remove an ill-advised sophomoric insult and to add:

CONGRESS shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Now, how is it that nini was stepping on your first amendment rights??

2. Is it OK for a customer to refer to a coffeehouse employee as "fat bitch?"

(To answer your question: It's OK for them to tell you they can't do it. There may be rules for a reason. There may be stupid and arbitrary rules. But they need to be nice about it -- and when they tell you no, you need to accept there's nothing they can do about it and either leave or get something else.)

3. No and I've worked a lot in customer service.
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 07:37 PM by haruka3_2000
I worked for Starbucks and the company policy is to give whatever the customer asks for. We'd get customers that would ask for their coffee to be made in a French press, and we'd have to make French press coffee for them (for the same price as the drip, even though it took time and we had to grind the beans special). If we could do that for a customer, then she could use less ice.

And I also was a manager in a health food store for a few years. Normally, I sided with the staff over the customer, but if it was something like that, I'd totally be on the customer's side.

Even Dunkin Donuts will alter the drink for you if it's possible...I have one (1) vanilla chai every 6 months (they are just so damned fattening) and I asked to have it iced the other day. Now it is a premixed drink that comes out of a machine (yes, I am wearing the flamesuit) and they managed to "ice" it for me.

C'mon, this person just felt like arguing with someone today. It can't be that it "can't" be done.
Sheesh - sorry about your chai...
Peace

7. No, it isn't. She needs to be fired, or have the rules explained to her.
She might just be a bitch in general; or she might have heard what "the rules" are and been powerfully afraid to break them because she's new. Who knows?

I know when I first started in service jobs, and, for the most part, just about any job, there were things that I thought "couldn't be done" at first but later found out that breaking some procedures was okay.

Still, that's something that's just bizarre to say "no" about.

9. No, it isn't alright!

She should have politely explained the mix is premeasured if that was the reason.

You should have walked out before paying for a drink you didn't get.

ugly n***er. I mean - fat bitch. May as well be the same thing.

18. fat is a choice?
NOT for some. If she was a shapely blonde (or whatever colour hair comes to mind) you'd have referred to her as a 'gorgeous bitch'? I think not.

Were you pissed because she was fat and bitchy or because she argued with you? Maybe she sensed YOUR attitude?

not fat anymore but feeling bitchy.

20. You have a point . . . actually, no. You do not. The offense is not in
the actual attributes of the insultee -- attributes whether they're chosen or not.

The offense is in insulting this woman, regardless of her behavior.

11. If a fast food place like Sonic
will make your drink the way you want it I don't see why a more upscale coffeehouse wouldn't.

How hard is it to use less ice?
