Ever done something incredibly stupid that damaged your car?
No one else's car. No one hurt. What'd you do?

On Friday I backed the car into the garage door before it was completely open. Broke the bottom of the garage door off. Broke the antenna off the car, punched the antenna base into the roof, scratched the paint.

:dunce: :nuke:

How about you?

1. Several years ago
I hit a curb while turning a corner in one of my old cars. I didn't think I hit it that hard or anything, but the next day the front axle just snapped while I was driving 60 mph through Brooklyn (Maryland — not NYC).

2. I once bottomed out my Saab and messed up the front spoiler.
However, that's nothing once we take into consideration that my mother has been in two car accidents. Both involving her hitting my Saab while in the driveway. The first time I was parked behind her and she got into her car and backed straight into my Saab. It didn't really cause damage though. The only visible thing in the front license plate frame matches up with the rear bumper of a '94 Dodge Intrepid.

The second time she managed to scratch up the whole side and dent in the door. She was parked next to it and I have no clue how she backed up that fucked up, but she managed to back into and along a car parked several feet to her left.

I hate being a passenger with her, too. It feels like going on "the whip" at the carnival.

3. Turned in too sharply on a corner in a van
I mean a proper van, not a minivan. I was doing delivieries at the time for my uncle. The corner had a very low wall, like 18" high, and I crunched the side sill of the van into it.

4. Oh yes.
Coming out of the parking garage at work I turned too close and dented in the passenger side of my car on a concrete pillar.

5. I have injured my car a couple of times, but no one else
I backed into a light pole in a parking lot. I side swiped my metal mail box at our new place. I have a low to the ground car and have scraped the front underside a couple of times on those stone parking things.

6. MrG had a beautiful brand new Ram Truck... Black with the club cab
and an 8' foot bed. I was driving it (this was right before we got married) and ran through the bank drive thru. I miss judged the distance to the curb and scraped the entire side of the truck (about 16') along one of those poles they paint yellow to keep you from hitting the building. Needless to say the truck had to go in for repairs... but before it went in, everytime we got in the truck MrG would say,"Look Laura, I am standing where my truck used to be!" and stand in the huge dent on the passenger side. It was rather funny to look at. Black shiny truck with HUGH yellow streak down the side of it. :hi:

21. And he still married you!!
A sign of true love. ;-)

My mom has run into one of those things at the gas station TWICE. In her beloved Jaguar that my dad got her as a 40th wedding anniversary present. Same thing...hideous dent and major paint marks down the side. She was so upset with herself that nobody had the heart to tease her.

7. The first time I backed out of my garage, I smacked the pass. side mirror.
It works, but it's a little worse for wear asthetically. I also was taking off my "lawn work" shoes in the garage, lost my balance and fell into the hood, leaving a nice dent. Good thing it's an old car.

16. I've broken 3 passenger side mirrors and those cost a fortune to fix.
I don't even bother anymore.

8. I broke both passenger and driver side mirrors
on inanimate objects. I also dented the panel behind the driver's side door in a Wendy's drive through. I have serious issues with spatial relationships.

9. My dear bertha!
Well, one fine day in my brand new Toyota Camry Hybrid, my husband and I were coming home from lunch......

And there was a fairly gentle but large speed bump ........

I took it too fast, and scraped the front end of my car.........

I didn't realize it at the time, but I had scraped loose some small part, and it started making a very odd and intermittent noise.....

I had to take the car into the dealership and a service rep and I went for a drive.....

She heard the noise, thank goodness, and she knew what it was....

I had to pay for the part, but they didn't charge me for the labor!

I now approach that speed bump very respectfully.....

10. I suck and I know it
Does filling the tank of an old buick with diesel count? That car died a spectacular death, it caught on fire just days later.

15. Well, it damaged ME, does that count?
I began to back out of the driveway when I realized I had forgotten something.

No, I didn't even try to put the car back in park and just began to get out as it rolled backwards, picking up momentum as it went, and I got smacked by the door.

That of course brought me to my senses and I managed to jump in and put the brake on and then put it in park.

All to the amusement of my then boyfriend, now hubby (of course he was concerned for me--between suppressed guffaws!).

17. bottomed out on a curb
I was going a little too fast, the guy in front was waiting to make a left turn. I didn't want to slam on the breaks, and I thought there was enough room to go around. There wasn't. I went up on the curb, and then there was a huge pothole in the "sidewalk" I don't think I did any significant damage but it scared the hell out of me.

Oh yea, driving in the rain with no wipers. I was about half-mile from home when I decided I wasn't going to make it to work that day. On turning around I hopped the curb, dented the rim, and put a good bulge in the tire.

18. Yes. I turned too sharply into my garage at a condo complex...
(in my defense, the aisle for driving between garages and parked cars was VERY narrow and I had an awkwardly angled garage), and I put a pretty serious dent in the passenger-side door of my car.

19. Well, there was that time,
I went down a LARGE hill made of very sandy gravelly soil. on a 4-door Datsun sedan.

Looking for a friend that was camping somewhere in the area. I went to the top of the hill to get a good view, and rather than back up to get down, went down the other side of the hill where the rain had carved a deep narrow ditch into the hill. I figured if I could straddle the ditch, I could get down to the bottom...

I guessed wrong....

The side of the ditch crumbled and the car fell sideways into the ditch, driver side down.

There I was, in the middle of nowhere, with the car laying on it's side, INSIDE a ditch...

I climbed out to survey the damage, and after a few moments realized there would be nobody to rescue me.

I climbed back into the car, started it, put it in first gear, and DROVE the car down the ditch on it's side for about 100 feet.

The ditch flared open near the bottom of the hill and the car eventually climbed out of the ditch and fell back on all four wheels.

The driver's side was all bright and shiny; it looked like a De Lorean.

But the driver's side mirror was gone.

Boy, it was hard explaining that to my dad...

You did WHAT!!!!!

:scared:
