Wow. I JUST NOW realized that the scene in "Coming to America"
where Murphy gives away the sack of cash to the bums ("Mordimer! We're back!") refers back to "Trading Places," where Don Amici and the other guy lost all their money at the end. I've seen Coming to America how many times now? Took me long enough.

6. did you get this one?

The directors do not mention it in their commentary. In "Josie and the Pussycats" the band manager guy says something like "you got to rub your success into your classmates' faces. Most people have to wait until their ten year reunion to do that" and then he kinda rolls his eyes. The actor who plays the band manager was 'the Frinkazoid' (HS nickname for Sandy Frinke) in "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion" (the character which Janeane Garofalo's character had a crush on btw) He was a character who went back to his 10 year reunion in a helicopter having become ridiculously rich by inventing some special kind of rubber.

PS - it helps if you have seen either of those movies.

good observation!!

now i'm ticked i didn't make the connection myself (seen both movies multiple times and have JATP on DVD)

i've always enjoyed Cumming's roles...no one in the business completely throws himself into a character like he does (see the Reefer Madness musical!)

11. I know this movie backwards and forwards
The Academy should give a retro-Oscar to Murphy for one of the greatest performances ever on screen.

I can do the "Rocky Marciano" barbershop scene verbatim and dead on.

I watched this movie about 300 times when I was in the Army- everyone had a copy of the tape and when all else failed it kept getting popped into the VCR's wherever we were.

and now from "What' going down" episode or "That's My Momma"....

I don't know how old he was but he got his ass whooped!

I started out mopping floors just like you guys. Now I'm cleaning lettuce and pretty soon....assistant manager. THAT'S when the BIG BUCKS start rolling in.

14. Funny how scenes like that work...
I'm sure everyone has a moment like that - you see something for the umteenth time, and suddenly something about it hits you. Sorta like looking at those old stereograms.
