so my glasses broke yesterday |
|
and I'm pretty much blind without them..
rough housing with my dogs, one of them "crashed" into my head and bent the stem all out of whack.
when I bent it back into place - it snapped.... no way to fix it... arrghhh
fortunately I had a pair from a really really old prescription. Not great, but at least I could see! I did try to swap the stems from this old pair into my present pair - but they didn't fit
before you ask - no I don't have any warranty etc. on the frames
I also need an eye check up and most likely a new prescription - but I can't afford it (I have tri-focals, and the eye insurance offered at my work place doesn't cover tri-focals - costs me less to get the eye exam than it would for the premiums...)
sooooo off to the mall to lens crafters where I got these glasses. No they couldn't fix them (wouldn't swap out the stems) and no they don't have that shape style of lenses anymore that would fit...
Driving to work this morning, it occured to me that I might be able to use the stems off of a pair of regular sunglasses -- if they were in the glove compartment.... If not I'd run out at lunch and see if I could find a pair.
LUCKED OUT! - old pair of regular sunglasses were still in my glove compartment AND THEY FIT!!!!! (and match close enough...)
tried a couple of other places in the area - no luck

I'm wearing a pair i bought in 92, my new ones the hinge broke one morning when I was cleaning them, it just snapped, i wasn't doing anything I hadn't done a thousand times before. So, I went to the drawer where I keep all the old ones, and the only pair in there that wasn't busted was this old pair, the funny thing is I see better through them than all of the ones since then, I can pick up a book or newspaper and see the print. I'm slowly saving for a new pair, I'm about halfway there, if I can keep putting a little bit at a time away, I'll have enough put away by next summer.
