What's the last dumb thing you did?
Me: I'm running two computers here. My desktop (this one) and my laptop (work). I'm reading through a thread here in The Lounge, when I glance over to my OTHER system and see I have new mail. Naturally I try to open up my Outlook, but the damn mouse pointer won't move. This might be because the desktop mouse isn't going to work on the laptop. Moran.

1. Got you beat.
I reminded a supervisor of what he actually said.

Ow.

3. It's easier
just to turn 30 degrees to the laptop. Also, both are in close proximity and wireless that I don't one one mouse interfering with the other system.

Cool software, though.

5. Hmmm...
Lost faith in the NY Giants, but they rallied in the 4th quarter tying up the game despite being down by 17 points, and beat the Eagles in overtime.

So my natural reaction was to drunkenly call out LynneSin and then pass out for about 4 hours.

That's not really dumb though.

8. I ripped apart a few disposable cameras this morning...
I needed the batteries out of them. I said, "I didn't think the capacitor would be that big." And I went to touch the capacitor and got a major jolt. I'm not really sure why I did that. But, I lost vision for about ten seconds and my arms were numb for about five minutes. Hurt like a muthu.

9. I accidentally left a position in a fantasy football lineup blank.
I dropped one defense to pick up another, but assumed that since I only had one the software would start it. This morning I check my progress and see that with neither me or my opponent having any starters tonight, I lost 122-118. Had I simply started the defense I picked up for that purpose, I'd lave won 126-122.

10. I went out to dinner with some friends on Saturday
and I followed on of them into the bathroom, I got in there like a minute later...seeing that none of the doors were ajar, I assumed that all the stalls were occupied so I waited and a line formed behind me. A minute later my friend walked out and said, "you know I was the only other person in here...all the other stalls were open" low and behold, I pushed the stall doors and they were in fact unoccupied. I meekly apologized to the people waiting behind me and went about with my business.

12. Was reaching for the bottle of Pellegrino in the fridge this morning
and I knocked a half-full bottle of white wine off the same shelf. The bottle hit the floor, lost its cork, and poured a lot of white wine onto the kitchen floor. I wept bitterly.

13. This morning...
My alarm clock went off. It's not within arm's reach for the purpose of forcing myself to get out of bed. In my sleep I seem to have gotten up, shut it off, and went back to bed. Ended up missing two classes and don't remember doing it at all.

14. I do lots of little dumb things...
like put the milk in the microwave instead of the fridge, or forget that I have to push the green button on my cellphone to actually dial the number I keyed in.

But the dumbest I really remember was on a cold March morning.

I had rehearsed at a church the night before, and noticed a car across from mine with the engine running and two women, apparently sleeping, inside. I figured they must have been waiting to pick up someone in the chorus, so I didn't think too much of it until I returned for another rehearsal in the morning.

The car was still there, in the same spot. The engine was not running, but the battery lights were on in the car. The woman in the driver's seat was slumped over the steering wheel. I felt a rush of panic, thinking they must have died of carbon monoxide poisoning. I tapped on the window...no response...louder...still nothing.

Other people were beginning to arrive, and I let them know my concern. We were all very distraught. I was about ready to call 911, and I thought I'd try once more to knock on the window, this time rapping hard enough to be afraid I might break the window. The woman in the drivers seat popped up with a terrified look on her face. I nearly had a heart attack...as did a couple of other people nearby. The woman said, "We'll leave...don't call the cops...please." They were homeless, and living in their car.

I gave the woman some money, and apologized profusely, promising that I wasn't going to call the police or anybody else...I was just happy they were alive! I felt like SUCH a dumbass.

15. I dunno, I'm kind of boring.
The last dumb thing I did was buy a jar of the maraschino cherries that had stems, rather then de-stemmed, which is what my SO prefers. I was in a hurry. :)

17. Embarrassed myself in front of students.
Luckily they weren't MY students.

We had a holiday that threw my schedule off...I went through half a Tuesday thinking it was a Monday. I didn't realize my mistake until I went to teach my first class about 1PM. I walked into the lecture hall 10 minutes before the class was to start and didn't pay much attention to the handful of kids sitting there. I sat down at the desk in front of the class, and began pulling out my lecture notes and course materials as the students started filtering into the classroom. I had just started to walk up to the lectern when I looked out at the classroom and realized that I recognized NONE of the students. At that same moment a young woman approached me and asked "Will Mr. XXXX be here today? I need to ask him a question about this weeks homework."

I didn't know how to respond. This WAS my lecture hall, and I knew full well that every Monday and Wednesday at 1PM I was supposed to teach a Java\C++ course to about 18 happy geeks. And yet here I was, facing a full hall of 45 GE students with no clue how, or why, or what what was going on.

About that point the instructor for the class walked in, and he wanted to know what I was doing in his classroom. I explained that my class was supposed to be in there that day, and he just looked at me with this puzzled expression "'Xith', you're not teaching in here until tomorrow". "No, I teach in here on Mondays and Wednesdays." "Umm, tomorrow IS Wednesday."

About that point the reality of what I had just done slammed into me, and I felt like the biggest idiot on the planet. Even worse, practically the entire class burst into laughter when THEY realized what was going on.

I have dozens of stories about stupid things I've done in the classroom, but that's the most recent...and the last dumb thing I did.

18. Just now...
I went apeshit looking for my cell phone. It's usually on the left side of my desk behind my computer. I spent five minutes tearing apart my room looking for it. It was on the right side of the desk. x(

28. You are welcome and it will get better!
Never feel bad about loving someone!
Just know that your love is a gift and if the person you offer it to is stupid enough to refuse it..it's their loss!
Because believe me I have seen your pictures for months on here..Trust me you ain't going to be alone.
Take care..And you have friends here!

25. I turned down
an offer of a lunch break.

One of my co-workers, whose job really has nothing to do with mine, kindly offered to take over for me so that I could go eat lunch. I turned them down, thinking that the co-worker who regularly takes over for me would be here shortly. That was 75 minutes ago.

It's 2:15 and I still haven't had lunch. x(
