War or Peace?

Free or not?

Flying Cars or are we still hooked on Oil?

What is the fashion of the day like?

How is our food processed?

New species of animals present?

Have we evolved or de-evolved?

What is our form of government?

IS there a government?

Seriously. What would YOU envision for the future?

on edit: Don't have to answer MY questions, what does our world look like in 2106?

3. The 8th or 9th generation of the Bush dynasty will be in power
and America will turn into the next soviet union, but without Communism. Halliburton will be a government run entity and all non fundie Christians are forced to be silent less they be put to death with an "Old Testement" punishment. Decendants of Jerry Fallwell and Pat Robertson will hold the highest government offices in the Department of Morality and the now radical-right Neo-Cons will be considered mainstream moderates compared to the government regime. We will have colonized the whole Middle East, but the region will still be in turmoil, with death and destruction every day. Only the children of government officials or the very very rich (who are also either in the government or very well connected to the government) will go to college; the public school system will be non existant because they were wiped out long ago with the school voutcher program that the Department of Morality issued. Education is a privelage, not a nessessity. All dissenters would be imprisoned or forced to keep silent. We will have used almost all the oil in the world up and the small amount that is left belongs to the goverment and their friends. We have many a secret prison and permenant military bases all over Europe. Tourture is used as a form of entertainment.

Wow. My vision for the future is very happy. :sarcasm:

4. Whatever it is, it will be strung by the marketers.
Therefore, it cannot be free.

I am incapable of envisioning hyperbole. I can only extrapolate based on current conditions. The pattern we have created to date is fairly straightforward. There is no logic to suggest it will deviate.

I made that with my computer! :) Sorry to not add more substance, but a picture is worth a thousand words!

7. 100 years from now
Computers and computing will be omnipresent. Absolutely. No one will understand life without computers in the same way people have a hard time understanding life without plumbing.

The nationstate will be ill-defined. I think that most North American nationstates will form into a loose confederation similar to the EU. I don't think it will much matter, as corporations will have ever-increasing power over people's daily lives (unfortunately).

On the bright side, I think that forward thinking economic planning will be better so that recessions and depressions can be avoided at all costs. Additionally, I believe minimum wage laws will actually be liveable, and that health care will be universal and somewhat affordable.

We'll be receiving our first data back from several probes sent to a number of nearby stars. Not just Alpha Centauri, but others such as 8 ly distant LeLande 21185 and 39 ly distant Tau Ceti (which we already know have several planets).

Most electrical power will be generated from fusion plants. Cars and airplanes will run on Hydrogen. Every last drop of hydrocarbons on Earth will be extracted however. For plastics. Then governments will pay people to dig through landfills in hazmat suits to recover plastics to recycle.

As for war and peace? Who knows, that all depends on now. If Republicans keep control, then I doubt we'll be at peace. Same for personal freedoms.

8. Crowded...
...brutally so. Most people will live in giant megalopolises with virtually no open space or greenery--there will still be some patches of wilderness, but "countryside" will be a thing of the past. Surveillance of every detail of our lives--by government and employers--will be omnipresent. There will probably be technical "democracy"--but in an Orwellian context... Apart from that, I think life then will be surprisingly like life now. No flying cars, though I hope I'm wrong...just a lot of congestion, a lot of silent desperation, and a little joy in the cracks...

9. Think Dust Bowl meets bubonic plague meets Road Warrior.
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 01:27 AM by Mendocino
Remnant populations hoping for handouts, living near the fenced and armed compounds of those lucky enough to consolidate power and food. A world that is impoverished, hot, hazy, blighted, toxic, dry, with dead oceans, dead trees, disease, anarchy, endless feudal warfare with the only abundant resource being desperation.

Sorry for the bleak outlook, but it's increasingly hard to be an optomist.
