A year ago yesterday I officially joined DU. Wow, that went fast!!

I haven't been around much of late because I am in training for a century bike ride on Oct. 1st, so I've been using most of my extra free time either out on the roads riding or recovering from a ride. LOL! Plus the kids started school and all the typical fall busy-ness, blah, blah, blah... you get the picture.

How you doin'? I was thinking about you recently, too. I just got back from Maui. Did you have a hard time readjusting to reality when you got back from your trip? I wonder if it hits me this hard every time, but I just block it out. Happy one year anniversary, by the way!

Fantastic pix and thanks for sharing! Yes, it was definitely a hard re-entry to Reality, after 2 whole glorious weeks of "island time". What part of the island were you on? Where did you stay? How long were you there? I wish you a smooth and stress-free adjustment period. Take it slooooowwwww.....

24. Thanks. We stayed in Wailea...

... for only 6 days (not nearly long enough). That part of the island (Wailea) has changed a lot in the past 4 years.

We hiked a little, took a catamaran trip to Lanai (Trilogy tour) and snorkeled. It was so much fun. When I go back, to Maui, I think we'll stay a little closer to Kanapali (instead of spending so much time driving).

25. yeah, that's what we did this last visit.

We normally stay in Napili, by Kapalua Bay, but this last time we stayed in Honokawai, a bit north of Kaanapali, at a place called The Mahana, which I'd definitely recommend. It made it much easier for driving. We were only about 10 minutes outside of Lahaina, which was convenient. I haven't spent much time in Wailea, actually, although we did have a fairly decent meal in Kihei. Boy, THAT place has really grown up over the years, too.

We've always stayed at Palms at Wailea condos. The driving was never a problem, but there are about 50,000 too many residents now! It's sad, but you can't blame people for wanting a slice of paradise. The captain on our boat tour and I had a long discussion about places being loved-to-death. The poor guy-- he doesn't even see what's happening to Maui. Soon, I'm afraid, it will become Oahu, pt.II. :-(

31. Yeah, the real estate prices are outa control, too.

I haven't spent any quality time on Oahu, but I can imagine what you mean.

I think the strangest thing was seeing the Costco that sprung up on Maui within the past 10 yrs. However, I must admit, we went there straight from the airport to stock up on supplies since we were staying for 2 wks. Amusingly, we saw many many people there who had been on our very flight! LOL.

I hope you don't think worse of me now. :D With kids, Costco helps. LOL.

Now the kids are back to school and the official start of Autumn is right around the corner. It's truly beautiful this time of year. I love it!

These days, I'm training for a century bike ride on Oct. 1st. 100 miles in a day. It's an organized benefit ride for the Santa Cruz AIDS Project, definitely a good cause. :thumbsup: It's been six years since I've ridden that far, but mama's STILL got it! :woohoo: Wish me luck.

My summer was pretty quiet, some work, some play and a quick road trip to Ohio. We did see a lot of free concerts here, though, which was cool. There was a punk reunion in August for a bunch of we old punkers - it was fun to see old friends.
