So I go to an interview, and they base their decisions on prayer |
|
Its a sales position, I ask the guy if there is a contract for me to sign detailing pay, etc.
His response "Well take this for whatever its worth, we are of the upmost integrity and we are very spiritual here, if you know what I mean. What I'm saying is we base many of our decisions on prayer. We pray about our big decisions as well as our small decisions and do what God tells us to do. So to answer your question no we do not have anything in writing for you here, we are of the upmost integrity and we do not need to provide you a contract just our word.
He offered me the position and I said, well like yourself I am a spiritual person and I need to go home and pray about this and I would get back to him. I will get back to him and I will tell him that God told me this is not the right position for me.
I knew something was up as soon as I saw a sign posted "Jim Gibbons Country" the Repuke candidate for governer here in Nevada.

I was really shocked when the dude said this to me. I mean he thought that was going to win me over. How could you not have a contract? thats flippin stupid. They looked weird too. They looked like repukes. He asked me on a scale of 1-10 what I thought about the position. I told him a 5. I was trying to be nice.
I'm gonna tell him, God told me not to take this job.

6. To paraphrase Lazarus Long.... |
|
If he proclaims his honesty and integrity (while not offering you a legal document), hold on to your wallet. If he talks about his faith as a high point, count your money twice.
I don't trust people who claim that their faith makes them honest and legitimate. Faith can be broken.. does that mean they'll be dishonest and illegal if they lose their faith? How is God supposed to enforce their dealings? Can the wronged appeal to God for redress? Does God offer a 24 hour hotline and insure the business? Since in my experience, God went for a 3 billion martini lunch about 3 billion years ago and turned his cell phone off when he got Mary and Parvati to come play, I don't trust in God to make any business do right.
(Note: I'm an effective agnostic because I don't believe that God intervenes if she even exists; my morals and ethics are the result of a lot of work and thought and do not rely on revealed knowledge of any sort. I believe they are firmer because they are built on foundations I had to lay rather than the sands that childhood faith would have given me.

10. "no contract" = we can fire you whenever we want. |
|
And for whatever reason we deem necessary. You could probably be fired for posting on this board, for supporting dems, for speaking out against the idiot chimp, and so on.
All interviews are good learning experiences. I'm just not sure what you learned from this one.

12. Tell them the word they were probably looking for is "utmost." |
|
And that God told you to not hire someone on the basis of whether or not they were qualified for the job is the upmost in stupidity.
